Runnin low on footage...

Post by EvaFan » Sun Dec 03, 2006 6:44 am

Ever had that amv you were working on and about 1/3 or 1/2 way through it you realized there isn't going to be enough editable footage (the material you WANT) from an anime to complete it? Just curious as to what other people have done.

I'm considering introducing another anime to the amv but introducing another anime halfway would be kinda weird i suppose.

I guess if you haven't come across this kind of problem, I'll ask you this question then: Would you find it annoying if the anime source completely changed halfway through an amv? I think it would bug me but I guess it kinda depends on the transition between the two animes at the midway point.

Anyways just asking what someone else might think so I don't end up doing something I'ma regret.

Starting over would be my absolute last resort cause I've started over once allready.

Unless it was smoothly done, and the sources were already very similar, it might not be too bad, but failing impressive editing or a song I really like, delete. Unless its an action video. At which point I would suggest just going back and interweaving it with the rest of the footage.

If there's a plot or at least central theme, what would justify the change in anime? How can you re-interpret what already happened into either the mind of the new central figure, or as a distinct event that influenced them? Could it be portrayed as alternate worlds with different outcomes for each part? It's rather open, especially when not given a specific theme to work with, and would probably require a look at the beta for something more specific.

As long as it's not obvoiusly stratified (i.e. mixed instead of just randomly changing) it should work... of course this depends on the song. If there's a significant change in the song, a significant change in the video is okay, but any striking change from a certain point onwards destroys flow.

I do it all the time. I've gotten to the point now where I'll save what I think are the better scenes for later.

Is shortening the song an option? I've done it before, and people seemed to like the finished product.

maybe you should consider changing the theme (if you have one) a little so that you might be able to use some of the footage that you looked over before.

but if it's something like trying to make a 15-min amv using FLCL...then I'd do what Orwell said

Forgot all about doing that, I'll look but I doubt I'll find a good way to end it without using its original ending.

Yeah that's what I was afraid would bug people alot. I figured if I can find a smooth way to transition between the two animes using a powerful point in the song it should work ok. I think this is my best shot but I'ma try seeing if I can cut the audio short first.

It's not worth starting over. Even if it is thats what we make remastered versions for. :)

You wouldn't necessarily drop the ending--you could perhaps cut out part of the middle of the song, keeping the ending but leaving you with less work to get there. Certainly worth trying at least.

If you are going to edit the song I would suggest cutting from the chorus, a solo, or the bridge rather than the ending.

To find more footage try looking at clean opening and endings. Sometimes I find things there that I can use.

To keep that from happening in the future try to do as much planning as possible before you do the vid. Things takea a bit longer to do but you generally end up taking about the same time because you don't have to deal with as many hickups.
