A lot of cons have similar rules... but they're spicifically worded to be an agreement you are making with the contest coordinator "at the time of submission." If you mail out submissions all at once or all before the video is shown anywhere it's still within those guidelines unless spicifically stated otherwise.Ezmereth Moriquendi wrote:it's against the rules in ACEN AMV contests to submit a video that has already been shown at another convention. (but that's the only one i've ever been to, anyway.) so if that's not a rule at other competitions, you could show a video at ACEN first, then send it to the others. i've never entered any other contests, but if i do, i'll follow that method.

I send my videos to one con and regardless if it wins or loses, that's it. The end.
Although since time has passed and more and more editors seem to just hurl their AMVs everywhere so they can get a batshit amount of awards(not that they don't deserve them) I've been rethinking my position on matter.

Yea I'm kinda torn between doing that and doing the "one con" approach, or 2 cons as the case may be...because that's about all the cons I have time/money for (because of other not-con vacations that I use all my time up on) But I'm considering doing vids for both Acen and AWA this next year...the key is going to be which ones go where.

I generally try to keep my videos to two contests (occasionally three, and very rarely four). More than that is pushing the envelope as far as trolling is concerned, imo. And once a video has won, I usually pull it from the local cons and only send it to AWA. It's kind of the respectful thing to do.

All this talk has gotten me interested in trying to submit something.
So what's the unspoken law of using a video I made last year for next year's AF, having in mind that I've never submitted anything to anywhere?

And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

One vid, one con. I did have a video used in three cons once, Ego Trip, but I only planned to send it to one of them. The second one PM'd me here asking for it, and the third...I didn't know it had been sent till I got an email about it afterward. I'm still not sure what to think of that. I'm guessing it was a small convention.
I wouldn't mind sending a really popular vid to lots of conventions if they were all at the same time. But I'd only send it as an exhibition video. I don't like the idea of trolling a vid that has a chance of winning anywhere it shows. Seems rude to the people who actually attend the convention, and those who made amvs *just* for that convention.
I always took that "cannot have premiered at another convention" rule to mean videos that will only show at that one convention. I figure that means a one-of-a-kind video, not something that...a week later...will have shown all over the country at every convention taking place that weekend. If all the competing amvs are one of a kind, it's a reason for people to attend that contest. If you can see it anywhere that week, there's no point asking for something unique.
