Phoenix Cactus Comicon 2007 Contest

Post by pansasama » Sat Nov 04, 2006 11:47 pm

Hi everyone! I know you're thinking "another one so soon?", but, yes, and there's good reason. It had been recently decided to have January be "the month" for Phoenix Comicon. Yet, instead of making fans wait from 2005 - 2007, we held the September 2006 con. It may be a lot of work, but it's well worth it. Everyone, including the artists and vendors, had a blast in September and we're planning to make it even better for January!

Hence my post here. We are hosting another music video contest and want you to submit your vids to us. The rules are here.

General info on the con is here

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to pm or email me. Thank you so much!

Since I project the vids from my computer, any vid that I can view works. I have the usual codecs, including ffdshow. Was there one in particular you needed to know about? (And I'm willing to d/l the vids if you don't want to mail them.)

just a quick question...
looking over the rules, I noticed that the reccomended audio sample rate is 48KHz, but I'd assume most people won't be using audio from the dvd, more likely is audio from a cd which is 44.1KHz

I don't know as much about audio...but I can't help but think that this may degrade the audio quality. Is there any particular reason for this audio sample rate? or does it not matter?

48000 Hz is the standard sample rate for DVD-compliant audio streams, so that may have something to do with it. Many cons I've seen that prefer MPEG-2 submissions will ask for audio at 48000 Hz.

If done with a good algorithm (last I checked, SSRC was supposed to be the best for 44100 -> 48000; AVISynth has a built-in SSRC filter), there should be little if any noticeable artifacting. At least, I've never heard any problems with my upconversions in the past.
