CPM Otaku Invitational Deadline Extended to November 3rd
Hello all,
Due to the feedback we got for the Central Park Media and Kaneva.com Otaku Invitational deadline, we are extending the deadline for submissions to November 3rd, 2006. We apologize for any mixups and look forward to seeing all of the great trailers and music videos you all submit. Please email me at kcain@tapin.net or visit www.otakucontest.com to answer any questions.

Teams drawn from anime communities across the internet will compete this month to create a promotional trailer for an upcoming Central Park Media DVD release of their choice.
All contestants admitted into the event will receive the release they choose to work on, plus an entry gift consisting of anime DVDs and t-shirts, courtesy of CPM.
Each member of the winning team will receive a grand prize bigger than a superdimensional fortress! They'll EACH get Central Park Media's entire massive anime catalog and other rare and collectible merchandise – plus their entry will become the official trailer for the product they picked!
The Otaku Invitational is, as the name suggests, by invitation only. Just 20 teams from across the internet will be able to compete! But while we think we have a good handle on who to invite, we don't pretend that we know everybody on the internet. That's why we've left open some slots... maybe for you.
So if you've already cut your teeth on music videos and fansubs – if you edit movies in your sleep – if your goal in life is to be an anime producer – if you think you've got a team that can make an earth-shattering, ass-kicking, top-notch trailer, email otakucontest@kaneva.com to participate and make sure to tell us what community you're a part of and why you think your team is ready for the challenge! Visit www.kaneva.com for more information.
Each team will be creating a trailer based on one of the following anime box sets or single-DVDs in Central Park Media's fall lineup of product:
Black Jack DVD Collection 1
Black Jack DVD Collection 2
Descendants of Darkness DVD Collection
Legend of Himiko DVD Collection
Maze DVD Collection
Now & Then, Here & There DVD Coll.
Project A-ko DVD Collection
Record of Lodoss War DVD Collection
Revolutionary Girl Utena: Rose Collection
Revolutionary Girl Utena: Black Rose Saga
Revolutionary Girl Utena: Apocolypse Saga
Shadow Star Narutaru DVD Collection
Shootfighter Tekken DVD Collection
World of Narue DVD Collection
Battle Arena Toshinden
Cat Soup
Cybernetics Guardian
Demon City Shinjuku
Doggy Poo
Dominion Tank Police
Geobreeders
Guardian of Darkness
Hammerboy
Knights of Ramune
MD Geist
Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie
Wrath of the Ninja
Good stuff, neh?
Who Determines the Winner of the Contest?
You do! It's a vote by the Hardcore Anime community as a whole. When the trailers are completed, the teams will upload them to Kaneva.com, where you will to watch all the submissions and judge for yourself which one is the best.

I know I asked question in the other forum (maybe we should just lock that one), but I got a few More:
My understanding is that anyone can submit a video from the above list, and from that, 20 finalists will be selected to be voted on by fans?
Now are you looking for a video fro every title? Is there a prize for ever of the titles that a trailer will win, or just one trailer will win for one of the titles?

Oh man. . . this DOES sound cool! Gotta do a bit more research on this first, and see if the time frame is feasable.
I can get my paws on Maze, Utena, Lodoss, Geobreeders (I think). . .
But yeah. . . definitely interesting. . .
It's always refreshing to see companies appreciate and take an active interest in the AMV community! (In the non-lawsuit sense, of course!

Trailer
Hello All,
We're getting a good response from the AMV community thus far.
The Trailers will be between 30 seconds and 2 minutes, and just to give you all an idea of the amount of time it takes to rip and create one, I worked on a Descendants of Darkness trailer for a day and a half that will be up on the Otaku Invitational site (of course, I'm not eligible to win the HUGE prize package). Anyways, we still have openings, so email me at kcain@tapin.net if you're interested. Regards,
Kevin

Re: Trailer
Time it takes is subjective... It all depends on the length, the concept and how complex the editing is and if there are any additional effects to add... I myself got an concept in mind, but it will consume time so I'll see about it this weekend...a2skinneeJ wrote:Hello All,

I imagine we can use any music/songs from the official soundtracks to the DVDs, or any other audeo (dialog, music, sounds, etc) from the DVDs themselves?
the only other questions is, since winners are determined by fan votes, how is the popularity of a series taken into account. For example, fans are more likely to vote for an Utena trailer then a Record of Loduss War or even one of the lesser known titles as a more popular title always influences fan voting in contests... So if I choose a less popular title, it will have a dissadvantage agains a very popular one if the trailers are to go head to head....

I was wondering about this myself. If there is something specific, then I might have to go shopping for a soundtrack before I get too serious about this. (Yeah, shopping for anime-related items is SUCH a hardship.Vlad wrote:I imagine we can use any music/songs from the official soundtracks to the DVDs, or any other audeo (dialog, music, sounds, etc) from the DVDs themselves?
