How long did it take to define and master your style?

While there are some consistancies between editing, i don't clasify anything as a particular style. There are mabye a few things an editor may do like lensflair or using lots of fades. But if you use that for every single vid of yours that isn't a mastery of a style its reliance on a few things. The reason, what works for a high concept drama will not work for a ultra beat dance vid.

Granted, that statement depends completely on the particular videos in question.Sephiroth wrote:what works for a high concept drama will not work for a ultra beat dance vid.

As far as I'm concerned, I have no set "style"
I simply edit as I feel... Whether it be simple, angsty, effect-based, moody, sad, romantic, fades, flashes, cheezey, etc...
Although, I do have a bit of an obsession with fades..I never can seem to leave two clips alone without having a small fade...
Hmmm...damn it, now you've got me thinking, and god knows I don't have time for that...

I've found that it's almost imposible to get me to edit ANYTHING that's not dramatic. I mean, I set out to make a fun/ action/ dance, whatever video and I end up putting a story to it. I don't know. I gotta work on that lol. I just CAN'T (or have not been able to) ignore the story of the song and just edit to the beats. It's just imposible!

Oh really?? try to make sense of this. You CAN and that's the problem. It makes sense and when it does it goes a million different directions. While it's possible all your thoughts have to go in the same direction so it'll basically just be one genre. Things like that just aren't very likely IMO and if so, they're just highly exaggerated but likely just one genre (ie not drama/ fun, just drama, but exaggerated or sarcastic fun).Kitsuner wrote:Granted, that statement depends completely on the particular videos in question.Sephiroth wrote:what works for a high concept drama will not work for a ultra beat dance vid.

But if you remember ... I easly picked out yours .....Ileia wrote:If I have a defined style, I'm not sure what it is. I try to do something different every time. As for people recognizing other people's styles a mile away....I recall a blind Iron chef judging where mine and Kitsuner's videos were mistaken for each other's.

i think some people can look at my videos and go "hay thats a dax video" or whatever.... but i dont have a set style...
i tend to sync things others dont hear... when i say other things i mean other than the measure or the drumbeat.. :/
i donno i dont have a set style, there are certain effects i have tried in more than one video but other than that :/ heh and maybe syncing to the vocalist alot of times... :/
but ive always done that.

Here as in, here in this thread? I'm here and I've got nothing! Ok, I have a sig or four, but that doesn't count.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I don't produce nearly enough to claim i have anything remotely resembling a style (nor enough to warrent my presence here... but that's another story entirely). I'm attempting to be one of those people that spend far too much time on a project as my initial attempts were far from lengthy endevours.
REGARDLESS...my grandiose AMV plans and in-progress works, I realized the other day (funny this thread should come up now), are pretty par for the course as far as my creative tendencies go:
1. AMV "plot" is important to me. My videos tell a story, not just flash random cool images at people.
2. My "plots" are kind of bizarre, stretching things, as some have said. (Or worse, after a lengthy and enthusiastic explanation of my AMV: "Yeah, that sounds like you."

3. I love inserting gags or dry humor into my AMVs that are meant to catch people by surprise.
Ummm...more Drift style will be forthcoming when I finally finish an AMV.

It's strange, only a year ago I would've said that I don't have a style but as for me at the moment I gotta say that I'm now stuck on slow editing and no-effects.
I guess it came to this because I wanted to focus on original concepts as the most important thing for my style/AMVs, and since I lost a lot of interest in the hobby due to lack of time I wanted to spend for it so now all videos I finish are the one's that don't take up too much time (mostly drama, action synch takes just too much time and in the end pure action videos are pretty meaningless for me so I got tired of usless effects, as well as most comedy)

Out of how many people? I mean, there was still a 25% chance of getting it right.JudgeHolden wrote:But if you remember ...
