Among other things that turned me off the idea was dj_ultima_the_great's little review of said 'engagements':

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

By the way, checking around for info on Haruhi, I read about the novel series and actually started reading some of the translations for them.
I'm curious where it goes after the first couple of books (which are evidently the basis for the series). Needless to say, titles like "The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi" sound at least vaguely intriguing.
If they indeed maintain the concept quality level, then we may well have a lot of Haruhi goodness to look forward to. Which would make us all very, very happy of course, right?

Once you start reading the novels, you'll start wondering why they haven't made plans for a second season already. (Maybe they have, and can't or won't reveal it...) There is material enough for at least another 13 - 14 episode series, and possibly a third season. I personally think 13+ episode arcs would be the best fit for any other incarnations. 26 episodes would stretch the stories out too much and make them lose focus.Otohiko wrote:By the way, checking around for info on Haruhi, I read about the novel series and actually started reading some of the translations for them.

For the most impact, I'd suspect a second season to include the "Disappearance" storyline, "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody", "Endless Eight", and hopefully the filming of the Asahina Mikuru movie...
Although chronologically, the filming of the movie does come first and it is a whole volume of the novels all into itself (v.2, "The Sighs of..."), it could serve as the main storyline in a second season. Include BRL, EE and some stories from volume 6, and you can save "Disappearance" for season 3.

That sounds about right. "Disappearance" is what I'd like to see animated the most, but I'd hate to it or "Sighs" overly compressed to fit both story lines into the same season. If that were the case I think I'd vote for sticking "Disappearance" in season 3 and just lament the wait.Willen wrote:For the most impact, I'd suspect a second season to include the "Disappearance" storyline, "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody", "Endless Eight", and hopefully the filming of the Asahina Mikuru movie...
