Alright.. I'm not real sure if this is the best place to ask . this . .but if it isnt oh well? .. mabye... anyway. I recently started another project using Fairyland (Blutengel club mix) - by Angelzoom ... I'm not real familiar with Techno/Dance? music at all so I thought I'd give it a try just for practice on editing. Problem is It's about 6:03 long. Again I'm not real familiar and I havnt really downloaded a lot of amvs of that type to get an idea on how long I'd like to have the song length. And since I'm trying to learn a little bit of effect work.. taking 30 minutes to render out 22 seconds .. I dread seeing 6:03.
My question is .. Editors who deal with this sort of thing.. or usual watchers .. what is the usual length you see or use? I understand that this is all up to personal preferences and of course what one is trying to accomplish, but I'd like to ask anyway.
Thanks in advance

PS:
i've also pretty much cut every song i've used for the past 2 years (or longer)... there are just somethings i feel need to be cut even if it's shorter then 4min (heh, or 3min, or 2... or 1
).
basically, in addition to what i've said before, do what you gota do to make the video you wana make

it depends, i usually don't like to watch videos that are above 5 min, and i usually try to keep mine to 3 min or else i'll just lose interest with the video lolz but there are the few (shackled) that are above that 5 min, and even some (shackled) that i could watch many times. It all depends, and is purely up to you

My longest vid so far is 3:56 - the song was 5:12. But I don't care about the question: How long should an AMV be? If I can go with my idea through the whole song I'll do it, no matter how long it is. If not, then the song will be edited. Hell, I did even stretch a song because it was too short. Since I while I'm pregnant with an idea for an AMV to a 6:36 song over the full length. But I'm still bothering with the question if I should do it alone or in cooperation.

16 minutes is my limit....
but i eat 6 minute songs for breakfast. it sounds like your working hard on the video, and if i were you i would cut out parts in the song, making sure it still blends together where no one will notice the cuts in the audio... then see how long it is... I've cut 2 songs down for their vids... and no one really seems to notice.... shorter videos are usually liked because they dont tend to get boring.. long videos get respect from some editors... i say trim it down.... it will take less time to edit, render, upload, watch and people would prolly appreciate it.
