transition question

Im not exactly what this transition is called but Ive seen it done several times. Its almost a mixture of the cross dissolve transition and the strobe light effect. Anyone know what Im talking about and how to go about it?

Do you mean like... the image turning white (or black)?
If not, could you list some videos that use this, so we know what you are talking about?

Yeah, it goes from a clip and then a flash of white and then another clip.

Ok just to make sure we are on the same page, the video brightens up until its completely white, and then the whiteness fades away to reveal a new video?

This is typically done with the Levels effect, which should be available in any decent editing program, though there are many variations which can give you a slightly different look. Maybe a simple fade to a white image would also suffice.

A simple way to do this is to have a plain white image on a higher track than the other clips and fade that in and out for the transition (which I think is basically what Zaxrax was suggesting at the end there).

I believe it's called a additive dissolve in premiere's pre-packaged transitions
