Same Anime, Same Music?
I have two ideas for AMVs to a certain Anime. The problem is: If I think about the songs, it comes to the same choice for both AMVs. I don't mind if someone says: "How unimaginative", because it probably is. I wouldn't mind either if someone else already had done the same combination for an AMV that I want to make because I'm sure it would be distinctive enough. And that's my concern: Will they be distinctive enough if I do such a thing by myself? Or will it, though using mostly different footage, be self repetitive? That from the experience of making the first the second will have a similar outcome? Anyone out there who tried it before?

Make what you like, not what you think others may like.
I've started down the same path but always around the middle of the second AMV I get so sick of the song I never finish the AMV!
Hope yours turns out better!

Pray 4 peace! Not an AMV, something you can do to help!

If you have two ideas using the same anime and music, I would suggest doing one, then waiting a while before completing the second. That way, you don't run the risk of having the videos being too much alike. Even if you use totally different footage, the pace and core ideas might be the same.
Another thing you might do is find a remix of the song for your second video. The tempo change in itself might bring about a totally different video than you imagined, even if you use the same anime.
I actually had the same kind of dilemma with a current project. I thought of using the original version of a song, but couldn't decide between two animes. When I found the remix, the choice became clearer as to which idea/anime fit better with the music pace. I chose to do the remix vid, but the original song might be used later on (cause it's just too perfect for the series NOT to do it...).

Are you in a situation where two sets of character relationships in an anime can be described by the same song? Just curious.
If you could make the two videos distinct enough from each other, I'd say go ahead. Try to see if you favor one of them over the other though, and make that one first. That way you won't be screwed if you lose motivation or get bored while making the second one.
I've actually thought about doing something similar, which is to take one song and make two vastly different videos to it (not with the same anime though). I think it'd be interesting to see how far I can push that envelope while still maintaining fidelity to the song.

Thanks to all for the answers. It helped a lot.
The best of course would be if I came up with a different song. Especially since the song that I have in mind has strong implications of a romantic love while the second relationshp is a sisterly love.
In AMV making I always do what I like and don't care for others. The reason why I'm asking here is to find out if other editiors experienced a similar situation and how it finally turned out or how they resolved it.Adv1sor wrote:Make what you like, not what you think others may like.
Yes. That's exactly the situation I'm in.jasper-isis wrote:Are you in a situation where two sets of character relationships in an anime can be described by the same song? Just curious.
While it is a good idea, I'm probably out of luck. The song is the BGM of another anime. So the chances are low to find a remix except the one at the bonus CD. But that vesion hasn't the atmosphere that I need, at least I cant' feel it in the moment. Maybe it changes if I listen to it several times. That way the AMV's would become distinct enough.jubjub2 wrote:Another thing you might do is find a remix of the song for your second video.

Go for it...
It's up to other people to do decide if your vid sucks...
Luckily for you though, you don't care ^_^
