Try the guides. They are on the home page.

Convert them to HuffYUV using VirtualDubMod.

If you're having trouble understanding the guides, then either look up the things you don't understand (start with the forum's search function) or ask more specific questions.

Or more spicifically, read the guides again and again until you get it. This hobby has a learning curve and if you're not willing to do the work and learn a little, quit now.

As for thegrandarcanum's problem, google "DVD to AVI" and you'll get a billion easy one-click programs. However, they do a half-ass job and you're better off with the guides' methods. If you don't mind then just go ahead, though.

Meh, it's fine. I'm usually posting before a class or while i'm doing something else, so i don't bother to spell check all that much anymore :(

I have the same problem, converting VOB files I mean. I've got virtualdub 1.6.15, but I don't know if that's the same thing as virtualdubmod. Can I still use the version I have? I have had a look, but it seems rather complicated/not so easy to understand.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

Actually never mind I solved my own problem/answered my own question. I'd've changed my other post, but I couldn't find the edit or delete button.

that would be because there is no edit or delete button (except in the MEP forum and in the reccomendations forum)

even though you said you solved your problem...
they are different.
Vdub can't open mpeg2 (like .vobvfor example) files unless you use an avisynth script.

vdubmod can open mpeg2 files...in addition to avi, mkv and ogm.
