I didn't make the finals with my video, which made me sad as well. :( And I made a Non-AMV-Hell type comedy video even. I should have put more work into the video, but what ever.

Yeah what's up with that, I wasn't either... dammit I demand the creator of that video remake it and give us all creators tribute.

Well I'm gonna wait for voting to close before I spill the beans, Illia and NGSilver guessed my video. So I'm sure the rest of you know which was mine. But just in case I'll keep quiet, cause I don't want those who didn't know to change the vote they gave my video to someone else. Cause, you know, everyone is jealous of my video :P

All kidding aside though, I also agree that comedy was weak. Overall quality of the contest though was nice. I can still remember what AMV contests looked like back in 1999. Compared to now the quality has come a long way. I do look forward to next year's pro, and hopefully I'll be there to watch it.

While I like the AMV Hell idea (shoot, I'm actually working on one myself) I'm seeing that its becoming a trend. Will we see amvs like that in the future? Yeah probably for the next year or so. But I think it'll die down once someone does something else unique and different that every one will want to emulate. Mostly because the Hell idea WAS a good one that lots of people can relate to. I'm sure we all had little short ideas like that.

I disagree somewhat on the whole AMV Hell/Blipvert AMV thing. I think that now that people realize, "Hey! I don't have to make a video that's funny for three minutes! I can just come up with a bunch of short jokes that may or may not be related and throw them all together and it's much easier!" we'll continue to see more of them and less full-length comedy videos.

Making full-length comedy is definitely hard- and I very honestly think that at least part of the reason for the decline in 'traditional' comedy videos is that more people are taking the easy way and making Blipverts. I'm not wholly opposed to the 'short' concept idea- I think the SAST contest AWA is running this year should be quite interesting, and I think that MMEP's like AMV Hell 3 are also a good way to use them- I just don't like seeing more and more Blipverts in traditional AMV contests and less and less traditional comedy. But then, liking old-school/traditional stuff is probably no surprise coming from me. :P

I fear that we will continue to see the short comedys things for awhile. People seem to think the most laughs in a video equals the best comedy video, so they cram as many jokes into a video as possiable, to keep people laughing, even if the video has no flow. I look at the overall video, and then reward on the pure genius of the video, vs if it just made me laugh.

I agree with Bob, amvhell style vids alleviated the challenge of being amusing and/or funny for 2-5 min. Anybody can make a funny think last for 10 seconds. And AmvHell itself was fine for what it was at the time, a bunch of poeple putting together thier weirdest concepts. It was never meant to be the new comedy.

And I will say, as awa pro has my first comedy ever, that it was a lot of fun to do. Exhausting (it had a lot of effects work) and parsing through the source was time consuming. I won't claim it's artsy or deep. In all honesty, I took my influence from the older comedies in terms of feel just because I look fondly on the vids of that era.

And once voting is closed I also have no problems with outing which video I actually did (although comedy does kinda limit the possibilities)

Well, this was my first year entering AWA Pro and it was entertaining. It was interesting to watch a contest without the mass audience of a con and it really gave each vid the full attention that they all deserved. It also showed me the harsh reality that you can't sit down and watch 50 AMVs consisting of mostly drama in one night. :P

I was suprised by some vids:

-Firewall and Undiscovered Countries really stood out as "outside-the-box" ideas and showed alot of creativity.

-The Full Metal Panic drama vid was an awesome suprise. I've been waiting to find a solid dramatic video to FMP that didn't focus all on the mechs, so kudos to the creator.

-BTB totally hypnotized me with the wealth of awesome effects, but I kinda saw that coming. I'm still not too sure how it showed up in "best artistic".

-The contest as a whole was solid. Some vids stood out more than others in craft but alot of the vids showed some good ideas and concepts even if they needed a bit more work.

Things I was dissappointred in:

-Not one real dance video. Sure "what is love" had dancing but it was more upbeat/fun. I was really hoping to see a shiny, fast video set to some speedy techno. Oh well...maybe next year...when I make mine.

Anyways, I enjoyed watching the vids and getting to see some AMVs that I wouldn't have normally stumbled across. Great work to all who entered and I look forward to seeing the winners announced at AWA next week. And I hope the creators get their vids posted soon after...I really want to know who made some of them.

Maybe i'm mistaken, but wasn't Pro voting closed as of yesterday?

There were some voting problems, as noted in the last email sent out to creators.

Basically it doesn't seem to be down yet so many of us rather not make ourselves known beyond a few people until that time. Mostly to keep up with that blind voting thing. You get guessing between friends on who did what vids though. (Hence my knowing Sailor Death/Julius's vid)

I'm glad there are still comedic geniuses like Doki around. As for comedy being hard, I still think action is harder. I cannot, not matter how hard I try, make a good action video. I feel that I'm better suited for Comedy, Upbeat and Drama videos. THough I haven't made a drama amv since Wonderboy. Whcih I think was in 2002. I like making comedies. They're hit or miss, but hey that's how comedy is. It's either going to be loved or hated.

Yeah, we all have our genres that we're most comfortable in. I'm generally more comfortable in Upbeat/Comedy/Parody and not on the dramatic/romance end of things, but it's fun to occasionally dabble in the other categories too. Keeps you from being too predictable. ;)

Dispite not reading jack I completely disagree with Illia.

Joking aside I am ashamed of my pro video but also feel asif 75% was picking their nose aswell when submitting things. The actual nominations as they stand are pretty much what I had in mind myself dispite some things here and there on wich I will not comment right now.

All I know is that there will be nothing in for me this year and I'll be looking forward to the actual winners even though for some catagory's thats kinda clear already. Since some catagory's will clearly get dominated by some hawt shit here and there.

In other news... This will be interesting as discusion food at the amv dinner later :o
