Yeah, but nothing very major and I wish there weren't any. Standards, people. Standards. Even the "standard" MPEG-4 is guilty of this with all the "parts" and "profiles". But ultimately, it shouldn't make a difference if the same decoder can playback either.

It's kinda like me saying that my MPEG-2 encode is a TMPGEnc video, versus your MainConcept video, or someone else's CCE video. :(
Okay, so what about MPEG-4 ASP codecs like 3ivX, which encode streams that no other MPEG-4 ASP codec can handle (setting aside ffdshow)? Or do those not actually comply to the standard?

I can change the FourCC to DIVX or XVID and it plays fine through XviD's decoder without touching ffdshow.

"Broken" is probably a good term to use.
