Best Con for AMVs?

Post by OniZabuza » Wed Aug 23, 2006 5:54 pm

So I recently read another creators post saying that at some Con there was a panel on AMVs. That's pretty friggin cool.

I live in Denver and the only real Con we have around here is Nan Desu Kan, which has a small AMV contest but that's it. I want to travel to a big Con this year...

Which Cons have the biggest buz around AMVs and the AMV contest? If there's panels on AMVs thats a good sign haha

Any suggestions?

I think Anime Weekend Atlanta is undoubtedly the best one. Its coming up soon in September.

Most every con has a panel on AMVs, just FYI.

Anime Boston's contest has really grown in the past couple years - we have a nice little community going that mostly resides outside the 'Org.

Anime Weekend Atlanta is undoubtably the king of AMV cons. Its our Mecca.

One that we must all make the pilgrimage to one day... one day...

On the other hand, if you want something from the southern hemisphere and have the money, Manifest is probably the biggest con with some AMV focus you can attend [/shameless pimping]

The best con to submit an AMV to is any con that you'll be in the audience to see. The best con to see other peoples AMVs is whatever con you'll be attending anyway. Seriously, there's so much shit to do at a con that which has the 'best' AMVs is a pretty stupid way to pick which con you'll attend. Go because of the guests. Go because a con has a rep as being all around great. Go because you'll be able to met friends. But to go halfway across the country for the sole purpose of viewing something you'll be able to download within weeks of the con anyway? Riiiiight.

That being said, AWA is considered *THE* amv con. Otakon and Acen are probably somewhat high on the list just because they're large and the staff doesn't treat AMVs like bastard stepchildren of anime fandom. If nothing else, go to the AMV contests forum and investigate any con that has a high # of responses/views in there, those are the cons that others consider worth paying attention to at least.

Or, in the case of Otakon, the cons judged to be worthy of criticism.

...if this year's Otakon threads mean anything.

AWA hands down is the best, which is saying a lot considering I've never been to one. I agree with godix about ACEN and Otakon being the next two on the totem pole.
