video compression

Post by digifreak » Tue Aug 01, 2006 10:27 pm

I'm using WMM, and since there's often considerable quality loss when I save with "High Quality Video" I decided to try "DV-AVI". That of course makes the file huge. It was 676 MB so I compressed it with DIVX in VirtualDub, but I could only get it down to 105 MB. Is there any way to get it down to a reasonable size without much quality reduction?

Try compressing your audio as well.

I had the same problem with my last video but it was over 5 minutes long, the best I could get in divx was 140mb so your doing better than me, on wmv I chose the second option fit to size and ran the mb's up as far as the would go, as the highest it will go is 2.0 but this usually produces the best quality in wmv, as far as the divx, I would like to know the answer to that myself, as when I got mine under 100mb's in divx there was no video only sound :?

digifreak, do what kinon said, and compress your audio to mp3, if you're using an uncompressed .wav, and digifreak and oceanangel2you look at the guide i linked, and try a 2pass XviD

DV-AVI? Did you check the resulting file for integrity? Every time I save as DV-AVI I get static in the audio and de-synching in the video all over the place.

Other than that I can't make suggestions... I don't like DV-AVI, it doesn't play well with others. -_-;

Bashar, sorry about that. <_< I've been up for like 20 hours, and I was mixing threads.

Thanks. I used .wav audio 'cause, like shiro_clanclan said, the audio gets messed up if I use anything else. And if you chose the second option fit to size and run the mb's up as far as the would go it's actually not quite as good as "High Quality". I compared them.
