  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

My entry into the world of AMV's.

Post by RagnarokEnd » Tue Aug 01, 2006 3:01 pm

I uploaded my first two AMV's I ever did. Hope everyone likes them.

Eureka Seven - Hero

If you have not seen the series don't worry. This one only uses the first two episodes from the series. I did my best to match the clips with the music and I feel I did it well.

Cloud - Over My Head

This one is a short, simple highlighting of Cloud fighting Kadaj and Behomet also trying to match music with clips.

Please let me know what you think of these so that I can improve or continue as I am with my amvs. Thank you.

I want to add:

Someone gave me a 1 out of 5 for my video. I do not mind if you truly think that it was that bad, but please leave a comment as to how I can improve it. Saying that my video was so bad I might as well not tried and then not telling my why does not allow me to improve.

It wasn't me, but I did download the eureka seven video. I see where you tried to synch, but your cuts were too long, too literal, and you had subtitles. Quality was acceptable. 2/5.

For Hero, here's my suggestions:

No. 1 - Lose the subtitles (Minus one Point)
No. 2 - AMV's aren't always about matching music and video. Yours did a pretty good job, but it didn't really speak to me. Sync was off every now and then, and it wasn't consistant. (Minus One Point)

I suggest reading Phade's guide on making good AMV's, and also finding some video without subtitles. Other than that, you did a great job for your first video.

Final Score: 3 Flying Mecha out of 5. (Yeah, I know, X-Play ripoff)

Thanks for the advice.

The subtitles were intentional, do you think that they really were more distracting then beneficial?

dangit, why can't you modify a post after you make it (even for only 10 minutes or so). To add to the one above....

Kionon, you said that the cuts were too long. However, I find that when I look at the ones that others rate highly I don't like them because it DOES change to fast and a lot of it just seems too noisy. What are people's thoughts on this?

Don't let star ratings put you down. And certainly don't expect commentary from every person who gives you one. Even if you make an extremely good amv, 1 and 2's are still bound to come regardless for all sorts of reasons. The important scores to focus on are the op scores.

Don't get discouraged at all!! Keep at it and you will become better. If it's one thing that people on the org do, it's compliment on how much better you get. Oh, and about the long scenes -- it's like watching a movie. For example: say a character in a movie has to go to the bathroom. Unless used for a comedic effect, the editor isn't going to film the door of the bathroom until he's done. Naturally he speeds up time to make the viewing experience more pleasurable by cutting most of the scene out. In Film lingo it's called not holding on to your "darlings." Once you master this, with a little sync here and there, people will start enjoying your amvs a LOT more.

Thanks a lot. That is really helpful. I'll try to keep the length of a scene in mind as well. And as for the low scores, I'm not discouraged just surprised.
