My current rig "Yggdrasil":

AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ CPU
ASUS K8N-E MB
2GB DDR 400 RAM
PNY nVidia GeForce 6600 256MB vidcard
250GB Hitachi Deskstar SATA HDD
160GB Samsung SATA-II HDD
Creative Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS Premium w/Audigy Drive
Sony DRU720A DVD-RW
Sony DDU1622 DVD-ROM
Windows XP Home Edition

The HDD(s) will be replaced or augmented by 2 WD 250GB SATA-II HDDs soon.

I also intend to rebuild my old rig to see how Magix MEP 10 will run on it:

Intel Celeron 500MHz
Tyan Tyan S1854 Trinity 400 MB
256MB PC100/133 SDRAM (I may up this amount)
Diamond nVidia TNT2 vidcard
whatever HDD I have lying around, possibly a 20GB
Creative Soundblaster PCI 512
whatever DVD-ROM I have lying around
Windows 98 SE

I'll probably want to kill myself when it comes time to render/encode...

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 6600 GT
160GB hdd (I'm thinking about adding a 76gig raptor and making that my main drive at some point, but I can't afford it right now)

The rig is about a year old--I bought it for gaming, but it is a joy to work with after my old computer: 2.4ghz pentium, 256megs RAM, and an onboard Radeon chip.

It's interesting to see how many AMD chips are showing up in this thread.

AMDs were the CPU to get until Conroe (Core 2 Duo) came out. And probably will still be until Core 2 Duo is available in decent quantities, especially since the AMDs dropped in price.
