Yeah, that's right.
Well, once it gets finalised you would send your cds to, well, Red Wolf I guess. The format depends on you - you can do a data cd with files or if you want to make a vcd then that's fine too. The creator has complete control over the content of the cd, the distro just copies it. If the creator wants the cd changed or the distro stopped then that is also their perogative.
All information regarding what someone would need to play the cd will be kept on the database. There isn't really a limit on the cds a creator can make so if you want to make a vcd and a data cd then that's ok - people will just choose one or the other.
It looks like everyone seems to be interested in one way or another so we'll start and make the backbone of the distro and start requesting cds from creators.

And, for those of us with more than enough videos to fill a CD can send in multiple cds, and you'd be handling that, for example, as such:
I send in 2 CDs.
CD#1 has, for example, Rollin, Deadly Love, and Lord of the Ballz.
CD#2 has, for example, Breakstuff, Battle of the Mind, and Eva Meets Cleo
I'd have 2 spots in whatever database of requests, and it would be up the individual requesting the cds to pick one or the other, or both, correct? Heh, would make for some interesting planning on the AMV Creators part, huh?
I assume your answer will be yes, I'm just asking for anyone who hadn't thought about it. =)
Question #2: Will we, the creators, be notified when our cds are requested?

Count me in support of this as well.....eventho it means I actually have to organize my back catalog into CD-images and pay freakish amounts of postage.
WRT mpeg2 distro, it should be remembered that MPEG2 playback capability is not to be taken for granted (yet); if you don't have hosting you might want to put together a CD of your work in MPEG1 or DivX and send that to the distro as well.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

How did I miss this post
I'm glad there is such good vibes about this idea. I was real psyched when AD first contacted me about it. As AD has stated I'll be starting up the initial distro center with AD providing an European mirror. I know there are folks interested in helping out with additional distro centers and that's great. For now, since this is a start up project, I think multiple distro centers to start would both be unnecessary and a bit chaotic (especially with stat tracking as some creators have expressed an interest in). So I would suggest we get the project started first with one U.S. distro center (me) and follow it up immediately with AD's European mirror. Then, once the project gets situated, we can look at picking up other mirrors such as a Canadian one and, if the project becomes big enough, start up additional U.S. mirrors.
An idea I've had concerning creators with a limited number of videos is get together with another creator or two, combine videos, and submit that compilation CD.

CD Labels: I would have no objection to keeping a stash of CD labels provided by creators for their CDs. I have the means to apply most any CD label and I could easily contact creators when their labels are getting low (it would also give them a good sense of how many of their CDs are going out). Anyone who didn't want to deal with labels could still "name" their CD but it would be labeled with a Sharpie.
Mixing AMVs: While being able to pick and choose the AMVs you want may be nice remember AD started this project for the creators. Mixing and matching would also become a serious undertaking on the distributors part, especially if this project really took off. Another thing to remember, which no one has brought up yet, is that you can ask for as many CDs as you want. You can request a single CD or a dozen (just keep in mind the added postage).
What CDs to Send: As it has been stated on here a lot of dub distros either bought tapes in bulk or requested a particular brand for swapping. However CD aren't mechanical like VHS tapes are so they inherently have less problems. Therefore a "cheap" is a lot less likely to cause problems like a "cheap" VHS would. As the distro I would have more concern about the speed of the CD sent to me (I'm thinking a minimum of 16x, 24x or 32x preferred) than the brand. If someone goes with a brand that doesn't last more than a year that is there issue. If someone sends in a non functional CD then, as Phade put it, I would probably bite the cost and let the person know and I'd have to think about trading with them again. I have an Office Depot and Best Buy 5 miles from work and home so getting free or near free CDs for distro use wouldn't be a problem for the occasional need (but I couldn't get enough for everyone).
Creator Stats: I'm checking out some programs now that would allow my to both catalog the CDs and provide notes or stats so I can easily keep track of how many times each CD has been mailed off. Please don't suggest any programs...I'm on a Mac
