Blond moment, Frustration or Blessing? Video bloopers

Post by oceanangel2you » Fri Jul 28, 2006 11:21 pm

 Okay the blond moment, your half way through editing your movie, you have cut and added and removed got all your special effects in and all of a sudden your editor decides to get moody and lock up, and you have not saved your project, and when it reloads decides not to save previous project.
This is the frustrating part because now you have lost everything you done, because of your blond moment you did not save it.

But is this a blessing in desquise, I have found that when I have to redo my project, I usually remember what order I had things in, but in going back through it, I discover some things I want to do differently and it usually turns out better when I have to redo it. So is it a pain, or is it really a blessing?
What are your experiences with this

If anything, I save too often. Sometimes I have a bit of video that's almost right, and then I make some changes and it's completely wrong. Whan that happens, usually I didn't save the original cuts anywhere on the timeline because I thought it was going to be a minor change. It's not a blessing at all. :?

Out of paranoia (and an Iron Editor experience in which Premiere crashed 16 times) I set auto save to something like 5 minutes. More often then not it becomes a pain though, as it momentarily changes focus on my project (and for the longest time it liked to pull my cursor to auto-highlight the cancel button even though I turned that option off in my mouse properties).

Depending on what I am using, if the program freezes it will usually reload what I was working on last, but sometimes it does not save, I have been having a major crash issue like was mentioned about the Iron Editor, except with KH its been a major pain, but as I said I made some different changes in the redo and it is better so sometimes it is a good thing, but it is still very frustrating, it is really frustrating if you have actually finished the project and it crashes during playback and you did not save :?

My saving habits are probably overkill. I save after each and every change. I save before rendering. I save after rendering. Repeat.

Every 5 minutes or so I save it and every 20 minutes or so I save a new project. Because I have had project files get corrupt before..

saying its a blessing is odd. 6 years ago I made this one video 10 times in one day because my premiere didn't save projects and when I rendered the video.. half of the video will end up being black and it would crash in the middle of rendering a lot of the time. Each time I made the video it just got worse. The video felt so nice the first time I made it.. and only got worse each time I tried to make it again. So no I wouldn't call it a blessing. When I start editing it's usually cause I'm feelin' it ya know what I'm saying? If all my work goes to waist my frustration takes a hold of me and second time around is going to be more bumpy.

I guess with me, I tend to get over excited about a project and get in a hurry sometimes, so if it messes up and I have to redo it, it is like I slow down and bit, probably out of frustration, but then it is like I take a deeper look at what I had and realize I could do better, kinda the same thing when I save a video and watch it and go nope and go back and fix it up, so sometimes it can be a good thing for me, but I preffer to just go back and ad or remove instead of redoing the whole thing but yeah alot of times for me it comes out better, I can see the other side to that too, getting frustrated for some can cause mistakes, especially if it makes you get more in a hurry to put it back together.
I am learning to save more often, especially after this latest project :P
