I like none of the old shit I used to watch =|
why? Visual/audio quality was low as fuck, Tech skills were low and the sync back in "the days" was horrible. Add that up with the fact that the older video's were mostly done by people who actually came out of the video editing buisness. The age's of people doing stuff was much higher then these days thus ruling out the good old ninety's techno, wich I love so much.
All and all I Say nothing from < 03 interests me that much.
Mind you all this is a personal opinion and is not a personal offense to any of the older editors on these boards. But as expected we are all wize enough to get the freedom of speech stuff. On that note all the new kids who are wannabe old school fanboys can flame me =\

Back when you started editing, you didn't need no welfare state. Everybody pulled his weight. Gee, our old La Salle ran great. Those were the days.Janzki wrote:Back when I started editing, we used stone tablets. Those were the days.

When I first 'found' amvs, I downloaded them for the anime used and kept them for the characters featured. I liked them because of the footage (as long as I didn't absolutely hate the song). I still download amvs for the anime focus, so my tastes haven't changed. That's probably why I can still watch some of the first horribly edited amvs I downloaded - the character focus didn't change, so I still like them now for the same reason I liked them then.
Those videos I kept because they were just "kinda neat" don't interest me anymore. I now know it was the editing that made me keep them, despite the uninteresting character focuses (or lack of focus at all). Back then I just thought they were neater than some of my slower favorites - worth a second watch. Now I've learned to judge sync and crap like that - so I look at those videos and all I see is random footage poorly synced to songs I don't particularly like. If they weren't burned to cd already, I'd delete them by the handful.
I do find myself watching some of my favorite character profiles and wishing the creator would remaster them and tighten the sync a little. That comes with being spoiled by fast cuts and clear visuals in more recent vids. But since most of those old favorites feature characters no 'modern' editor bothers to focus on, I can overlook the flaws and still enjoy them for the anime.
I burn almost every vid I download to cd. The ones I keep on my comp are organized by character focus. So unless I find a new vid to replace one of the old ones, they stay on my comp indefinitely. I still have rms hanging around in my video folder, and I deleted realplayer years ago. ^_^;;

I didn't really mean OLD VIDEOS, I mean, everyday videos of that same crappy quality are uploaded. I was more talking about you, and your tastes. Back then, most people could watch the crap, but after you've watch a lot you see that they're not as good.Niotex wrote:I like none of the old shit I used to watch =|

I honestly don't mind old videos, as long as I enjoy them.

It's easier for me to watch new stuff but I still respect the old stuff. A lot of the crap I watched back then that you could easily consider crap, I enjoyed them at times mainly because it was an action high or concept high. Some videos are pure shit.. but have a lot of cool action to it going to cool music. I didn't find many good DBZ videos so I had to enjoy all the crappy videos I found.
All old videos though don't equal crap some I consider to have certain key elements that amvs coming out today are lacking.. like the old school Aluminum Studios, Maboroshi Studios, Kevin Caldwell, Kusoyaro, Otaku Vengeance, Scott Melzer, etc..
These creators were kings of matching many elements of the video to the audio.. not just damn basic beat synch. A lot of the videos had an interesting way of mood synch you don't see in a lot of amvs these days.

My first AMV was Maxwell Murder and I haven't seen it in 4 years so I wouldn't know my opinion on it
