Do you still like the old stuff?
Let me explain a bit more.
Back when you saw your FIRST AMV, I'm sure that with most of you, you had lower tastes back then, do you still like that AMV, or do you even remember it? Or do you even still like the old AMVs you used to watch a long time ago?
The first AMV I ever saw was Akiraa's "I like who I am" an Android 17 tribute set to "Dammit" by Blink 182. I don't hate that AMV, but it's definately not one of my favorites. I remember watching a lot of DBZ vids, a lot were from Akiraa, and while he vids aren't perfect, when I watch them now I still find them "decent". But I used to watch Linkin Park vids...I must admit that they suck to me now, and I wonder "Why didn't I notice the crappy quality back then?"
But, I still like the old AMVs I used to watch more or less, but there are some I hate now.
What about you?

Some of them. The good stuff stays good. But even some of the better stuff in my collection is hard to watch, because I wasn't as picky about video quality. So there's videos I still enjoy, but I have a hard time not staring at the pixellation while I watch them :/

my first ones were doki doki's and alluminum's stuff... with a few random others like shounendizzycow, Kusoyaro, and other people who were good... then came the ones i found on kazaa O.o
i still like my "first ones" as in the ones my friend eric showed me... alot of the ones i found on kazaa were deffinately lacking... there was one i really loved, but when i look on it now it really could use alot of work, but i still love the concept... i almost want to find them and ask if they care if i could remake it cause the concept was awesome and the song worked well... but the bad fansubs they used kinda killed it after i go back and watch it now

In terms of visual quality, yes I look back at the stuff I used to watch and go '...
? I don't remember this looking this bad...' I still have a soft spot for most of the very first AMVs I saw (the rest I've probably forgotten). It's the ones I saw in the first few months that have me wondering why I thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. Guess I was just at the OMG EFFECTS stage.

I still play the AMVs in my favorites list... Which, even though they aren't my favorites anymore, they're fraught with subtitles and the worst quality ever.
Back in 2004 I would crop them out myself and be like "Ah... Good video finally lost annoyance."
I can't remeber what video it was, but I completely re-edited somebody's AMV so it looked better because I liked their concept. I was justf or my personal viewing, so... Yeah.
I'd do that now except I'm too lazy. That, and I don't watch AMVs any more. All my AMV watching happens at AWA.
So here this, noobs: If youd on't enter in Expo, SQ doesn't see your videos!
Even if you're a famous person.
The last time I downloaded an AMV was... God... I think... April or something.

What's considered good can change with the passage of time, to a certain extent. There are really two categories of good videos. There are the good videos that are truely good, and will obtain classic status. It doesn't matter how old they get, they will remain good for eternity, because they are just that damn good. And then there are the other videos... you might enjoy it for the moment, but it just doesn't hold up. You come and look at it a few years later, and you wonder what you ever saw in it, or it just simply becomes forgotten.
So yea... a lot of the videos that I used to like maybe 5 years ago... I would consider them crap now. I don't even remember most of them. But then there are the real gems... the videos that withstand the test of time, the videos that will never be forgotten.

I think it's like this for most people. That's why audiance judging at contests are so randomly skewed to popular music and popular series. Anything can wow you if you have no real sense of taste or comparison. You really have to develop a sence of what's good. Once you do, it's apparent that those vids that got you into this whole hobby were really pieces of crap.

For me, it's all about emotional impact. I am likely to continue liking AMVs if they have that emotional impact, but to me, it's more important than visual or audio quality. I have seen plenty of "zOMG AWESOME" videos that I don't give a damn about because they do not make any emotional impact on me. So it all depends. Plenty of old videos that many here might deem crap now (but were "good" when they came out) appeal to me still because of the emotion involved.
My favorite video is, and has remained, I Can't Move On by ErMaC, which is pretty bad quality by today's standards.
