The bottom-line as I see it is, the room size was screwed up. Reality is, it is that way... However, now we will get to see how good the Otakon staff really is on putting things right and fixing it. Attendees are very harsh and only react to what they see and not what you tell them, so this can only hurt the event as AMVs are a significant event... NO matter who you blame or what is said, the end result is that this will hurt the contest.
I have spend over 15 years being programming director for large to small events. Over the past three years I've been programming Director for Animethon. Since animethon has a lot of smaller rooms, it have about 25 tracks of programming going on that makes it very complex to schedule and the schedule is examined over several months by many eyes and everything including capacity is looked at repeatedly. To miss something as important like this is truly a breakdown in the system and communication and there is no other way to excuse it unless the Otakon organization as a whole don't truly care about the contest. I would assume that is not the case here.
In the end, the ball is in Otakon's court, so we'll see what they do with it...

I'm just waiting for something along the lines of "Well, judging from the uncharicteristically low number of entries, we assumed that the contest's popularity had wained."

The situation with the room has been resolved, and I am sad to say that due to the low number of entries we have received, in conjunction with the negitive comments staff has observed from various public outlets, the decission has been made to cancel.... hahaha!
Actually the situation with the room has been resolved, and the Contest will be getting moved into the largest video room at the convention.
While not as large as the ballroom used in previous years (which was divided up to make more video/panel rooms) it is FAR larger than the space the contest was previously slated to be in. This has effectively increasing seating capacity by over 3x (approx 2600 seats) and should provide adequate space for everyones needs.
I'll try to ignore all that stuff everyone was saying about me... for now.

None of it was personal. It's just that I've done PR work, and you are the organization you represent. I have nothing against your personally. I'm sure you're a cool guy who is doing this because you love the fandom. I respect that. But you're a mouthpiece, which means you get both the blame, and also the CREDIT. I am grateful you have found the space. This goes along way to repairing my fractured faith in Otakon. In addition, I have decided to attend. Perhaps this signals a willingness to tackle issues that was not present the last time I attended. If it does, I will be just as positive as I have been negative.Actually the situation with the room has been resolved, and the Contest will be getting moved into the largest video room at the convention.
