in truth i think its better that they didnt... the tube is going through sweeps of fanvideos (and other videos that include music) for music companies that complained about their stuff being broadcasted without permission or licencing fees, and deleting them... I'd hate to see them get a link to here and their drama to follow the same over here...Krisqo wrote:I just found that not one but TWO people posted my video "False Identity" on that site. Neither took credit, but I don't know how I should feel? They all seem to like it but couldn't they have linked to my org profile?

You don't own the copyright on that material, and that's what matters in this case. I'm hesitant to call it "theft", but it is certainly "breaking the law" at point 4, and oftentimes as early as point 2 (see downwithpants' post).Melanchthon wrote:From who? Whether or not AMV creators are morally superior to those who take AMVs and pass them off as their own is an entirely different issue; but I think I've had my say on that point, and the next two paragraphs should make it clear.
Stop thinking of it as a problem.Kobe101 wrote:So how are we gonna solve this problem?

I've been a victim told the guy he stole my video and that the beginning of my vid was perfect just the way it was, there was no need to change the beginning... The person tried to "assure" me but it didn't do no good because that video was most definitely mine and all I wanted was for him to change the beginning back to the way it was and put my name in the credits... Haven't heard back from him and my video's still on display on this so-called site... I'd swear if I didn't feel like I was experiencing something similar to "secret window..."

Actually, points 2,3 and 4 are illegal. Points 5, and six are arguably the same thing as just using downloaded footage instead of ripping it so they don't count twice.1. You buy Anime.
2. You rip Anime to HDD
3. You edit the Anime
4. You upload the "AMV" calling it yours.
5. Someone like your AMV and takes it.
6. They modify it slightly and post it as thier own.
Basically, you can complain to the website and get them to take it down, or you can deal with it.
<date> is a pretty good example of a video that's been posted a bunch of times. For some reason nobody ever wants to steal my videos, except my students. They only stick it on mywaste.com so I don't really care.
You do have options though.
Option 1 - take it in the rear and hate it
option 2 - get the guy to admit that it's yours and link to your video here
option 3 - complain to the website officiously
option 4 - complain to the website nastily
option 5 - take it in the rear and like it, all the while hating yourself.

I also think people are getting too stuck up on this "Stealing" term.. As pointed out, it not stealing, but more as something morality wrong. I have no idea how the word "Legal" ends up getting into the conversation...
We know the legal standings on AMVs, and there is no legal course of action in this case to even consider. Thus the only thing left to debate is if the act of taking someone else’s video and claiming it as their own is morally wrong...

Yeah, funny thing is, uglier, less - than - Omni, quality vids are being copied... [let's just say that people who KNOW good amvs will wonder why amvs of this caliber are being stolen]x_rex30 wrote:yeah same here...OmniStrata wrote:Nobody has stolen Euphoria or any of my vids yet?though the only place i look or know of amvs is this site.. that'd be cool if someone stole my vid and tried to take credit for it.. that would be like insurance on your video being good.
Am I a self-centered bastard? Yes and no...
If you're going to steal something GOOD and call it yours, why not do it? When you're stealing something that's like, ya know, blah*, it doesn't help anyone...
SOMEONE TAKE MY VIDS, CLAIM IT THEIRS, AND MAKE ME LOOK GOOD DAMNIT!!!!
