Victim's of what? If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery then outright stealing someone's work and claiming it as ones own is nothing short of PHWOARRR!!!!!!. Wish someone would steal my vid's.
this my friend is why i put "victim" in quotations... because i cant really do the "hand gesture" on the internet... O.o

some people feel as if their victims and others dont feel that way... infact im one of the latter ones anymore, i used to get all riled up and upset about this stuff now i just laugh at it...

infact ive come across two videos on the tube that ripped mine off... i keep them in a special playlist on called "rip offs" XD and comment that i like how they made my footage not work in their vid... maybe i should start leaving actual con crit on all of them... hmmmn...

yea im bitter but i still find it humerous

i remember this form an amv panel at jacon a couple of years back.
making an amv from your own dvd footage is legal, as long as it's for your viewing only. as soon as someone else sees it, you've broken the law. so ya, step 4.
which is a little weird, since it's not against the law to invite friends over to watch a dvd you bought, and thus they don't have to buy or rent it themselves.
KioAtWork: I'm so bored. I don't have class again for another half hour.
Minion: masturbate into someones desk and giggle about it for the remaining 28 minutes

1. You buy Anime.
2. You rip Anime to HDD
3. You edit the Anime
4. You upload the "AMV" calling it yours.
5. Someone like your AMV and takes it.
6. They modify it slightly and post it as thier own.

You broke the law at point 3. and so they are stealing something you stole.
see where the problem arises? Its not yours to call it yours in the first place.
Ah, not quite. More like 4. And you can possibly argue if you're suave enough that it's actually the org that's distributing the video and not you, so even that's questionable...
Whether 3 or 4 are broken laws are not, its allowed on this site meaning this site has different rules that do not abide by the norm. If someone took my AMV, took away my credits, put their own and called it theirs they would first better hope I don't know where they live then I'd just report it. Simple as that.

point 2 if the DVD uses encryption. see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decss

there's a slight moral discrepancy between when amv editors "steal" anime/music footage and when other internet denizens "steal" amvs. amv editors typically credit the source of the anime/music footage while others who "steal" amvs will sometimes take credit of the amv for themselves.

I feel exactly the same way. Which I think might be part of the reason anime and music companies might turn the other way when it comes to amvs. Generally, they will be credited, which means that there's a chance that whoever watches an AMV and sees what sources are used might be inspired to go buy the anime dvd or music cd. Amv editors aren't trying to take all the credit for anyone's work, amv thieves are.

Let me put this another way. Think of the org like school and making amvs like writing a report. Generally, you will use other sources to get your information, put their words into your own, cite your sources and everything is peachy. But if you all out copy their words without citing them, teachers tend to get upset. They get even more upset if you completely steal someone else's report all together.

While making amvs and posting amvs may not be completely legal, ther is a big difference between editors and amv thieves. The major one being respect.

I just found that not one but TWO people posted my video "False Identity" on that site. Neither took credit, but I don't know how I should feel? They all seem to like it but couldn't they have linked to my org profile?

Clever hacking of the youtube database to install basic IP scanners, false warrents to get physical addresses from the ISPs, and harpoon guns.

Aparently some people on here also noticed it and started spamming it with comments on how it was a ripoff
