Ah, well, pity about that is that I can't really stick around afterwards as there's no way my bosslady would allow more than the Aug. 3/4 off...she's aaalready stipulated no more long weekends after this... :-/Black Sun Productions wrote:fuck yes i will. i just turned 21 in june!genestarwind21122 wrote: Yep you'll hear of one. Otakon is going to be right before my 21st B-day. So I'm hoping some creators will stick around Sunday Night to help me celebrate it.

*crosses fingers for hopefully larger venue*
This will certainly alleviate my stress situation for the weekend if this does come to pass...

Keep us posted. Glad to know it's being worked on, even if it doesn't result in a solution.hackerzc wrote:Wanted to let everyone know that a compromise is in the works which (if successful) would result in more than triple the current seating capacity for the AMV Contest.
Details will be posted as they become available.

Well obviously nothing is final at this point.dwchang wrote:Keep us posted. When I said it needed to be moved to a bigger place I was pretty much told that the contest being in video 7 was final and that they were not going to move it (that it was too late).
But obviously enough attention has been brought to the matter that something is being done. I'd hate to tell everyone that we ARE getting a bigger room then not see that happen.... so I'm going to wait until things are settled before I say any more about it. *I think*

I am glad it is being worked on, but it makes me wonder what type of communication is going on at Otakon. I am the assistant head of panel programming for Anime Central as well as the amv contest corrdinator for Tekkoshocon (which Ashyukun, you're right in we had about 750 seats but our attendance was a little under 2000, much less 3000 and was 3/4th full for friday night's showing) and I know that when planning events the anticipated turnout is accounted for.
Knowing that the contest for three years has warranted a huge showing, it is a major breakdown when it is given a third rate room. Heck, with Acen due to seeing the size room amv got and noticing it was not in main programming, my boss and I moved a showing into our largest panel room, knowing that it was needed. And anyone who attended knew that we were a bit screwed for space. It's just common sense.
Meanwhile the cosplayers get every concession made it seems. I don't understand why or how Otakon can't see that there are other fans that matter. A lot of people don't like masqerades. It's only fair to give equal attention to different fandoms.
My suggestion if you end up getting a tiny room in the long run, make sure the people in the contest can see it. Arrange for seating for them. They worked on those videos and deserve to see it as well as see how the crowd reacts.

Go hackerzc! Thanks for at least trying.
I think it would be cool if they could get a giant laser and show the AMVs on the moon.
(Just think about it, it would be cool!)

Pray 4 peace! Not an AMV, something you can do to help!

According to what I've been told by the President, the schedule wasn't sent out for review prior to the press deadline. So not enough experienced eyes were looking at it, and those who did look assumed that "Ballroom 1" meant the entire ballroom.
It was not until programming saw the book with the numbers in it that I was corrected and the actual room we were in was confirmed.
Luckily I was made aware of this and was able to bring it up as an issue.
At first I was told that nothing could be done (which I let everyone know), fortunately everyones posts about it caught the attention of the President who has stepped in to resolve the matter. We will most likely be able to post an update on this either later today or some time tomorrow.
What makes this such a difficult situation is that the current schedule is PACKED... and I mean FULL.... there is barely any open space anywhere in it, and nothing large enough to fit the block needed for the AMV contest.
The only way to take care of the AMV Contest and the Fan Parodies is to totally flip schedules between two rooms (moving JUST the contest is impractical as it would cascade the rest of the schedule for whatever room it went into).
Since this means moving an entire video room to a smaller space programming first needs look over the schedule once more and decide which has the bigger draw, the contest/parodies or what is already slated for the room. From past experience, I expect that the AMV's and parodies will win out in this case as they consistently draw the largest crowds year to year than any other events (save cosplay and the concerts).
While I do not know what the deal with cosplay is, the President is trying to give the AMV's and Fan Parodies exactly what you are asking for ... equal attention.
Additionally, reserved seating had already been setup for those attending the convention who submitted content this year (and was done long before we even knew about the room problem).
