As to their preference, I can find one good point. It defers any responsibility for bad selections away from the coordinator(s).

I was wondering, how many cons actually do prescreenings?

Well, most cons do prescreenings, but Otakon and AWA Pro are the only ones that I know of that have any sort of "public" pre-screening element.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I was wondering, how many cons actually do prescreenings?

I'm not so sure that Pro is screened at all: if you enter, you're in. Unless your entry file is broken and un-fixable. And you do have to be over-18 which is screening of a different kind.dokool wrote:Well, most cons do prescreenings, but Otakon and AWA Pro are the only ones that I know of that have any sort of "public" pre-screening element.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I was wondering, how many cons actually do prescreenings?

Well, the contestants decide the winners, which I guess is a pre-screening in a wayTaranT wrote:I'm not so sure that Pro is screened at all: if you enter, you're in. It's more of several individual pre-screenings.dokool wrote:Well, the contestants decide the winners, which I guess is a pre-screening in a wayTaranT wrote:I'm not so sure that Pro is screened at all: if you enter, you're in. I surprisingly still have a picture of my 2004 trophy on my site from when I posted con pics 2 years ago for Otakon'04:ReligionX wrote:Your Jedi mind tricks will not work on me. I see no mention of any sort of prize package for the AMV contest. You could easily have gotten all of that in the dealer's room. Besides the trophy. I haven't seen any pictures of a "trophy." ...dangit.
Can't anything just be for fun anymore?![]()
Well... since they can't... what did you get?
Teh Trophy
On the top it says:
"Otakon 2004
Hiroko-Chan Award"
And on the bottom:
"2004 AMV Contest WInner
Romantic/Sentimental"
My 2003 Romance award is nearly identical albeit a bit shorter. Not sure why they made 2004+ ridiculously tall. It barely fits in my trophy space
Anyway, no one said we didn't do it for fun, but awards and recognition are always nice. Maybe moreso for some *looks at Scintilla >_>*. At the same time, I can certainly understand since Otakon is a fairly large and respected contest and thus recognition from them is thus...appreciated
Unfortunately, the DVDs I received in the past are well...not much to be desired. Hentai DVD or Zone of Enders Volume...5 -_-;;
In terms of creativity though, nothing beats my 2004 Best of Show from Sakuracon Movie Clicker signed by all the guests
