Yeah. Inuyasha isn't likely to do the last goodbye. He'd try to ask Kikyo how she feels about him first. Then ask why she feels that way. Then explain his every action really clumsily. Then get mad and frustrated when his explanations don't fix the problem. Ask what the problem is a few more times. And repeat until someone cracks.

And if Kikyo tried to say goodbye without dying right after, pretty much the same thing would happen. Poor guy. My Dad pointed out that often his rather daft remarks are the sort of things guys say when they're trying to figure out what the problem is so they can fix it. Thing is, they also do a really bad job of it.
