Though the interesting thing is that I heard the upcoming official DVDs in Japan will follow Haruhi's order. Because of that, they had to redo the episode previews with Yuki announcing them.

Does anyone know what was up with the talking cat in episode 1?

I expected to see it again sometime during the series, but I don't think it ever made another appearance (unless I missed something).

If that is true, then why did Episode 1 - Ashahina Mikuru no Bouken Episode 00 (chronological episode 11) get the first release? I think it's because Yuki = HAX.

Shamisen (the cat) doesn't show up in later episodes except in the opening credits. This is one of the reasons why there is a clamor for a second season. There are many more stories and details that should be animated. If not, hopefully some domestic publisher will license and release the manga volumes soon. I doubt the novels will ever be officially translated and published in english though. There are fan translations, but since the ones I've read about are done Japanese > Chinese > English, there are some additional translational errors that crop up.
