Open source (fast) photomosaic software?

If all goes according to plan, i'd be doing all of this on a server I picked up... if not, i may just do segments and stitch them together with the tool AndreaMosaic has.

Some screwy shit happened in the last few days with this... I'll crosspost fom their forum for anyone who may want to use the AndreaMosaic software in the future...

I have a few questions though...

Why does it only support JPEG images?

Why did it cause over 40,000 images to be completely erased from my HDD?

I'll clarify. I took a series of vobs from Region 2 Japanese DVDs, served them with an AVIsynth script to create a 5-DVD long video that was properly deinterlaced and only showed every 20th frame, then I saved all the images to my image folder (as i had done before with another disc i had on my computer. The first 8500 images from the first disc went into AndreaMosaic's image library just fine. The next 5 DVDs worth of images (close to 40,000 images) took me over 15 hours to process and save. I tried updating my image collection and those 40,000 images completely disapeared. They were nowhere on either of my two harddrives, they were not in the recycle bin, i had not misplaced them in any way. In fact, when i was updating my image library, it was going through all the images that were later deleted! I tried the process again with a single DVD and after another 3 hours, the same thing occured. This time another 9,000 images were missing.

What happened? Is this a known bug? Why did AndreaMosaic spend the time indexing all of these images and then delete them?
