Couldn't locate a decompressor: xvid- but it's installed

Post by Anoel » Sun Jun 25, 2006 10:08 pm

I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro and I'm importing avs files into it. However for some of the files I'm getting "AviSource: couldn't locate a decompressor for fourcc xvid". But I have the latest version of xvid installed and I've already reinstalled it and it still doesn't work. The avs file works fine in VirtualDubMod so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help would be appreciated.

Premiere Pro doesn't handle XviD well from what I hear. You could just try reencoding your XviD encoded AVIs to loseless Huffyuvs and it should work in Premiere Pro just fine. While it will take up a bit more space on your hard drive, it will definitely work and is probably your best bet.

I haven't tried to import an avs file that uses divx/xvid footage...but something tells me that you're running into the same problem as you do when you try to import divx/xvid footage directly

I believe that I've imported avs files using d2v footage though...if you have the d2vs, try using those as the source instead of your .avis (and unless you have a killer system, I'd suggest just IVTCing the footage, and making it look good after you're done editing)

Try to use DirectShowSource() instead. It's been pointed out that AviSource() sometimes doesn't work as well.

The other option is to make clips of the parts you need with VDub/Mod and save them as Huffyuv or Lagarith.

Thanks Willen, DirectShowSource does work a lot better. My only problem now is that I have a ton of separate avs files for each separate episode that crashes Premiere. Is there any way to use less scripts that would cause it not to crash?

Try adjusting the SetMemoryMax() parameter as specified here:

and/or here:
