It seems there is a real "otaku literacy" test. It appeared in Elfics magazine last summer (link). According to an article in the July issue (just out) of Wired magazine,
The exam was something of a Japanese obsession, despite having been available only as an insert in Elfics magazine....

"Otaku have joined the mainstream to become a major cultural icon," says Tokyo journalist and social observer Kaori Shoji. They've been lurking on the edge of hip for some years. Now they've gone completely legit." In a recent column for the Japan Times, Shoji wrote about women who were desperately tring to land otaku boyfriends and the trouble they were having competing with the ultrageeks' preferred romantic companions - racy images of anime idols...

There is no God. If I read that right, then guys are looking at something like this: and picking the cartoon? To top it... girls are actively seeking guys like that? Where the hell were they when I was in high school? Dammit.

Whoah. wtf. I'm not sure what kinda girls they're talking about going after guys who are into the anime scene so much they prefer the anime over the real thing. :?

If you did land one, at least you wouldn't have to worry about the guy going after other live women. . .unless they looked suspiciously like an anime character. :shock:
