Oh wait, somebody did and it was granted. Is it that hard to write a polite e-mail these days?
Wait, so this guy is blowing smoke up MJ's ass for no reason?
Honestly, I don't know. But I sincerely hope the recipients of my e-mail at least contacted him.
I was under the impression that the Video Game Projects cleared the vids with the remixers beforehand, guess I was wrong :?
We did back in 2003 when Flux posted on the ocr forums. A few people said "Yeah, that's cool". So we kind of assumed everyone was cool with it.

We really left it up to the editors to decide if they wanted to ask permission from the remixers, some did and some didn't. We also posted the links on the ocr forums after every project and hadn't had any of the remixers ask that their remixes be removed from any of the projects before. I'll email mister Harding and see what he says. Worse comes to worse, we edit the project to remove his videos and reupload to the org...

Why are you even asking that question?

Let's say that someone takes the top five videos of the Top 10% list and one of your videos without permission, strings them together, removes the audio, and overlays some remix of his and releases the video somewhere.

Would you think it unreasonable to contact the site and ask for the video to be removed?

If all he wants is to be asked for permission, it might've been more prudent to simply go to the source instead of going through the site. I guess, because he went through the site, this has become a legal issue instead of one of courtesy. But, as paizuri said, someone did contact the guy and got permission. Put ego and indignation aside and respect the guy's creative hobby just like you'd ask for respect. Legally, we don't have a leg to stand on either. So let's play by the honor system with peers.

Depends. Does he give fair credit?

Could he not have contacted the editors or myself and ask instead of making it an org issue?

From my standpoint, if someone robbed the top 5 vids on the org and made a pieced up video from the scraps, I wouldn't expect people to be happy about it but also I wouldn't think the term "illegal" should be thrown around as a threat (like his email states). If the original composer of the megaman mixes were to contact the org, I would feel more obigated to adhere to the wishes of the originator's music...but that is just me. Honestly, it doesn't bother me either way and it should be Flux's and Carlos's call if they wanna ask since they used his remixes.

How do you constitute fair? A meaningless nick next to a remix title? If there were a link to each creator's personal profile, I guess I would consider that fair. But I don't believe any equivalent action was taken by the VG editors. Not blaming them, because they just hadn't anticipated this.

I believe my following paragraph addressed that, and I agree that he should've done that.
mexicanjunior wrote:but also I wouldn't think the term "illegal" should be thrown around as a threat
True, but I think he was using illegal in reference to the site's policies. He never threatens lawsuit or anything like that, because I think he suspects he doesn't have a case. I think he also expects the creators not to have much respect for him, or perhaps he doesn't have respect for us. Either way, that seems to be the issue. A lack of respect on one or both ends, and the only way to remedy that is to act like fellow hobbyists.
