I was just gonna make a thread like this... WHY, why do ppl think lipping belongs only in comedy?? is shonen bushido comedic?? or alot of other dramas I'd seen with lipping. I'd seen many MORE dramas that could really been helped with a little lipping. Coarse I seen a few where the lipping was so OFF. But anyway lipping is NOT JUST for comedys. Sure, just about any comedy can use lipping, but ALOT of dramas too... just not all of them. And when you attempt lipping in drama, people expect it to be done perfectly. They don't want to laugh at your drama peice.

okay after watching crowd reaction at a-kon, the crowd will inherently laugh at lipsync no matter what the original mood of the piece is supposed to be...

it was odd but then again the people who tried lipsync in "dramatic" pieces were also in the amature category..

They also yelled out "Death to Christians" so that kinda tells you what THAT crowd was like ...

Lip-syncing can be done in any genre of video as long as it's done right - an otherwise great Drama video at AB this year was totally thrown off, in my opinion, by the lip-syncing during the chorus. What made it even more apparent was that when the editor didn't lip-sync during the last chorus, you could totally tell how the mood of the video changed.

i believe that was just some jackass who happened to be sitting right behind us... who also had a very biased opinion to a certain music group that was played...

i was so tempted to tell them off and ask them if they could make better... that whole group was kinda rude...

but every single time something or someone was lipsynced there was a laugh, and it wasnt a single person, it was the whole group...

yes lipsync is cheezy...

In drama most of the time, but I think Nostromo's videos are great examples of how Lip Sync can be used in a non-comedy video ..... :D

Did the French tell you that?

I totally agree -- I think a lot of people do it just to say they can do it well.
Tash wrote:Yes I think it is very stupid. I also think lyric synching is just as bad. But sometimes you have to stop being such a boring serious person, and enjoy the cheesy things.
Yes! cheesy=funny, that's why i laugh at some vids even though they aren't meant to be funny.
IcyCloud wrote: To me, it doesn't often enhance the meaning or flow of a drama piece to have lip-sync; it often feels more like the editor simply didn't have anything else to put in that segment.
Exactly. In serious works it doesn't add to anything.

Yes! I loved Shonen Bushido and I died laughing when Orochimaru began singing. ah shonen goodness

Good strong statement. I believe it to be true.

Heh heh heh...

Yes lip-synching is a tricky art, but I think it can be used to work in any genre. Like with most things, it just depends on the video and the editor.

How can lip syncing be cheesy? You make the mouth parts out of cheese? Stop playing with your food! Damn french and their wasteful acts of radioactive cheese.

Pretty much what everyone else said.
