That would be good schtick...godix wrote:The solution is simple. Edit the music slightly and claim it's a remix of his remix. Therefore the same logic he may use to defend his remix would apply to yours. If he doesn't defend it, well, then it's up to Nintendo to file a complaint not him. Either way, problem solved.

Ehhhh... I'm surprised that y'all didn't ask beforehand. Honor among th- fellow remix-culturists and all. And obviously everyone would have said yes for a high-profile project with good editors, so they wouldn't have had excuses to bitch about it after the fact.
This is actually why I didn't do one of my favorite ideas - it would involve a fan-made remix, and I was too scared to ask for permission.
The attitude is pissy, but in a way I think it's also like copying someone else's video edit or footage to put into a video. Yes, you don't own the original material, legally or ethically. But you did make that edit; the concept and change to the original is yours, and although you don't OWN it, other fans tend to have a mutual respect about giving you credit and a little leeway. That's just an ethical impression, though, not a law. Lots of people don't care about that sort of thing; I do. I don't go around burning YouSuckTubians at the stake, but I do find it a little skeevy.
If he's pulling everything off OCR, though, it just sounds like one facet of a hissy-fit, which is unfortunate, albeit kind of funny. It's just the internet, man. Walk away, move on and forget what you did before. Lots of people do it.

Honestly, I don't know. But I sincerely hope the recipients of my e-mail at least contacted him.dokool wrote:Wait, so this guy is blowing smoke up MJ's ass for no reason?paizuri wrote:I'm surprised no one has just e-mailed the guy and asked for his permission.
Oh wait, somebody did and it was granted. Is it that hard to write a polite e-mail these days?

I was under the impression that the Video Game Projects cleared the vids with the remixers beforehand, guess I was wrongpaizuri wrote:Honestly, I don't know.
