And if you're looking for more counterexamples to the idea that its MTV face is the be-all-end-all of hip-hop culture, the rest of D-Jux's A/V page is full of them.

You of all people do not reserve the right to call anyone ignorant. Myself, Mr. Stromler, and The Unlimited, have been trying to get a point across to you, which you fail to get.

1. There is more to Rap than what you get on television and radio.
2. There is more to the same artists that you normally get on television and radion, than what you get on television and radio.
3. It takes talent to rap, just like its takes talent to sing and compose a beat. Not everyone can do it. And if you still don't believe, then try making you own rap record and see how fast you'll get shut down.
4. Anyone can put words together that rhyme, but that doesn't mean that they can rap. There is a difference between rapping and reciting poetry.
5. By proper definition, rap is talking in rhyme and rhythm over a musical beat. The Unlimited pointed out the singing is also talking, so by default all songs with lyrics, regardless of genre, can be defined as talking in rhyme and rhythm over a musical beat.

Through tragedy, she found triumph. R.I.P. Coretta Scott King (1927 - 2006)
Long live the "King of Pop"! R.I.P. Michael Jackson (1958 - 2009)

I say these things about rap because I guess I'm comparing it to rock. (duhh). You have a valid point and you changed my view about rap (congrats :) ). I guess it does take some talent. I never said I actually hated rap i do listen to it... hehe  .... I just don't consider it actual music.

How exactly do you qualify "redeeming"? I'd like to see you define it such a way that it applies to every other genre and solely excludes rap. I don't see how any music is redeeming in any way other than that it appeals to a person's tastes.

Mix that with the sounds of beating a horse that'd had a blender stuck half way up its ass and you've got death metal :P
