This is hypocritical

Post by haru_hara_haruko » Sun Jun 04, 2006 2:47 pm

This has been bothering me for awhile.

You have said a lot that this place is for ANIME music videos....meaning you won't let live action stuff on here and others...yet

Why do you allow FF games and Kingdom Hearts? Those aren't technically ANIME...yet they're on here, by the thousands I might add. Why do those get an exception to the rule and other things don't?

because according to this site, it is legal.
Site FAQ wrote: What kind of videos can I put on the database?

The simple answer is ‘anime music videos that you have made’. If the source footage is entirely made up of non-anime sources, then it doesn't belong here. ‘Anime’ here is essentially defined as Japanese animation, including things like cutscenes from Final Fantasy games and so on. Non-Japanese animation and non-animated source are not allowed although we are lenient with anime-inspired original animated or drawn creations that the members have made.

Any videos that break any of the site rules (including but not limited to abuse of other members) are not allowed. Videos that contain pornographic footage of any kind cannot have a direct download link on the database. All such videos should be indirect and have an advisory warning before downloading the video. Further information about requirements can be read on the "Enter a New Video" page.

If you are not sure whether your video meets these criteria, do not enter the video. Instead ask in the forums (in Site Help), giving a rough account of what your video contains. The administration withhold the right to remove any videos deemed inappropriate for this site.
Cutscenes from FF games and Kingdom Hearts ARE Japanese animation, just as the same reason why Appleseed the movie is Japanese animation. The cutscenes in FF games is essentially created in a similar fashion as the Appleseed movie, all CG, and no actual drawing, but it is still animation.

In other words, no, it's not hypocritical at all. We strive to be consistant in what we allow.

Yeah, and animeandcertainvideogamemusicvideos.org is a really long title. It's not hypocritical if they make it clear what kinds of videos are accepted, which they do. They never say "no video games will be allowed in music videos listed here" and then allow a select few.

There are games that have actual cel or cel-style anime cutscenes, although most are considered pretty old now. Japanese CG animation is considered anime here and most other places too. As for in-game gameplay footage (non-cutscene), well, the line is kinda blurry.

As for live action stuff, as long as the majority of the footage (>50%(?)) used in the AMV is from anime, it is allowed. If you happen to find a video that appears to go over the line, let a moderator here know about it and it shall be analyzed and dealt with if necessary.

Ironically,Animethon Convention's Execs had the same dicussion in what to allow to be shown as anime and whay is not... Seems we are not the only people to be debating what is anime and what is not...

The bottom line... The guidelines that we have adapted is what we are using... We try to be fair and consistant, but by all means, not everyone has the exact same opinion and therefore the debate will never end.
