Rainbows

Why is it that de-rainbowing tends to work better on dvd files and not so well on avi's? I've been using SDDeRainbow and have noticed that it does almost nothing on avi files, but on the dvd files it removes them almost completely. Is there a way that works well for avi files?

When I was calculating the cleaning scripts for the Nightwish project, I found that LUTDeRainbow or DFMDeRainbow (maybe both), although I know they're not supposed to be used like that, managed to lessen the appearance of the rainbows in the Castle In The Sky segment, but it didn't eradicate them completely. And yes, I was working with an AVI copy (and presumably so was the project coordinator, who actually applied the scripts on their end).
