Otakon AMV Contest (EXTENSION: Non-Competing Entries)

Post by hackerzc » Sat May 20, 2006 6:05 am

As of this morning, the Otakon AMV contest deadline is being EXTENDED until FRIDAY, JUNE 9th... for NON-COMPETING ENTRIES ONLY!

For those who were unable to make this years deadline for the contest itself (for whatever reason), the Director is allowing an extension for those wishing to still submit their entries as non-competing/for exhibition only.

Non-Competing entries are held to the same exact content/format rules as all competing entries, with ONE exception. YOU MAY SUBMIT ENTRIES THAT HAVE PREVIOUSLY WON AWARDS (at other cons).

A copy of the rules and submission form can be found here: http://www.otakon.com/events_amv.asp

Does this mean they'll be strictly in the overflow room?

That's correct.
Only the Contest itself is shown in Main Events.

Mind you, the overflow room is a fair size itself (as large as the main events room of some smaller-mid size cons). And is almost always full.
Not to mention the overflows run through the entire con, so entries are shown multiple times. It's all good for exposure.

Last year the Overflow amv room was actually overflowing. There were people standing in the back of the room and by the door ways.

So it does get packed in there.

I thought it may have been (it usually is) but I only stopped in to the room once last year to check the attendance. I think I saw a few people standing when I was there but I can't remember that well. I KNOW Matt Pyson's old school anime thing was packed though (there wasn't even standing room left lol) and that was all past Otakon submissions/winners.

Yeah same here. Was the only AMV related thing I was able to watch without worry. It went over REALLY well too. When it started me and Antonio were sitting on the floor, but I quickly put an end to that and got my ass in a chair.
It would be nice to see Matt pickup where he left off and do the following years entries (everything was in chronological order, and I believe it was all made up of previous Otakon contest winners and such).

Oh well, am tired... so if I spelled anything wrong, oh well ^_^

sweet! I just got back into the scene with a video released today and some locals are saying "you should submit to Otakon" which I have in previous years, and surely I thought the deadline was past due, upon checking otakon.com it is so.

Count me in! let me get that form.
