I think forum participation influences something, but it's not skill IMHO. I think the only real thing forum participation could really influence is the number of different people that might be willing to give your amv a chance when it's posted on the announcement thread. It seems like if you get to know at least a couple people on the org, they might be willing to view your newest amv's and even leave an honest word on how they felt. Of course, there are obvious expceptions to this.

For example, someone like E-Ko--or someone else who's made one of the more popular amv's this site has to offer--they don't have to be an active member on the forums in order for one of there newest amvs to be given a chance. Of course, this is just my opinion based on my observations and the way I feel. I know I'll probably give a free op to dj_ultima_the_great (providing she comes out with a new amv someday) since she's left me a couple of kind but yet honest commentaries for my amv's.

It's interesting to note some things about that list after some calculations (I was bored)...

Roughly 17000 people have posted at least 1 post in the forums, so were at least at one point in their life interested enough to either say "hey, I'm new here, wuz up," or "can someone help me find this video," or "can someone show me how to make a video." That's roughly only 2.5% of the total population of the forums.

There are about 563 people who have posted 200 posts, 200 or above being my guess work level that I would consider as being "regular enough" in the forums (I chose 200 because after that, each of the succeeding pages no longer contained names which I recognised right off the bat). That equates to only 0.09% of the total population.

Those with a big forum presence I took as being people who have posted 1000+ posts, in which there are only 148 people (equating to 0.02% of the total population).

Assuming that the cream of the crop is represented correctly by the top 10% list (I'm not here to argue its merits, just using it as calculation point), we have about 344 videos and for the sake of simplicity, let's assume they are each created by one person each. There's a total of about 117327 videos catalogued on the org, so the top 10% are just 0.3% of the total number of videos here.

0.3% of the videos here are considered "great" while there are only 0.02% of the people here, which have a strong forum presence. So what does this mean? It means that you are more likely to make one awesome video than becoming someone in this forum that anybody will take notice of (by a factor of 15). I guess therefore I can conclude that I have reached a new level of boredom.
