Outside of letting my friends beta the first draft, I actually prefer to premiere my video at my local SmallTownConWithTwoEditorsTotal. We're a very tightly knit community (to the point where anyone who enters the contest actually has to go to the convention), and I want to give them the honor of being able to say "we got it first" in the event one of my AMVs do some damage at a major con. I got to plug my video, and the convention, at a panel at ACen this year, so there's an advantage to going into a major convention with a "limited private screening" like SmallTownConWithTwoEditorsTotal.

Just a shame that the Other Editor at the SmallTownCon runs the contest because I could really use some competition. :?
Watch My Videos! I assure you they don't suck!

I'd say 90% of the time I'll wait until a con is over before I upload the video here. I think it's more of the fact that what if a judge saw the video. Their opinion the first time around coudl be different the second time around. Whether that is good or bad I don't know. I'd rather have that first reaction. The same goes for me watching the videos at conventions. I'd rather not have seen the video before. If I do it's kind of like: "alright I saw that. can I see the next one now?" (This feeling is exempt if I really REALLY love the video.) The other 10% I just wanted the video to have more exposure.

As far as other creators they can do what they want. I'm not going to hate on them just because they uploaded the video or not before the con. Let them be.

I've never made a video specifically for a con, and I probably never will.

... mainly because I've never been to one :P

Almost a month was my limit... that's usually enough time anyway to generate a hype on a video

That's ALOT of time w/out any word from any1. I would atleast put it on youtub (didn't even bother w/ the e :) ) To atleast see what kind of comments u get. Alot of people who go to the convention probably won't see it, which is actually good cuz then this way u can get a sence of what other people think about it, then when it comes time for the convetion tweak it up a lil bit and get the "bugs" worked out. Make an intro or sumthin for it. Anything to show u really put some work into it, and it seems like u got the time too so why not?
I put it in her butt,
and got 20 bux!!!!!

Hometown/local cons are special cases. I'd wait 5 months (or more) before a public release if it is a video made specifically for a con I'd attend. Hopefully, I'll have the video I want to premiere at my hometown con next year done well in advance this time.
Having trouble playing back videos? I recommend: Image

Hmm... you know what? The only time where I actually held out on releasing a video till after the convention where it premiered finished was my home convention, albeit it wasn't entirely "small town convention" sorta thing... pity it wasn't actually in competition
