Hmm... well, the thing is so many people ask about "where can I get such and such video" and many of them just don't bother even checking out the search feature of the website. Naturally, if you didn't say you didn't search for it already, a lot of the regular forum members will assume you didn't (because that's what they've come to observe)... after seeing this sort of situation happen many times, the regular forumers get jaded over time answering the same thing over and over again and maybe it's inexcusable to be intollerant of those who don't seem to want to do anything for themselves, but you also gotta realise, saying something like this is not helping your cause.

I completely understand 'why' I received that response but that doesn't make it a proper response. Every message board gets overwhelmed with simple questions that regular posters are annoyed by because they see them so often. However, I think it's ridiculous that people surf around on a message board just to leave derogatory comments to someone that they don't even know.

I'm not going to be anyone's punching bag, I didn't deserve what was said to me just because I happened to leave off that I've already tried the search function.

It was not my intention to deliberately annoy anyone and apparently that is the intention of some posters on any message board.

Your comment contributed absolutely nothing to the thread because rather than try to answer the question you just wanted to get in 15 seconds of comic relief. Otherwise, if there is nothing for you to contribute to a thread why spend your own personal time just to look down on someone else who is admittedly new to these boards.

The internet may give you the ability to be rude, but that ability is not a license to treat people with disrespect.

Good advice... might be something you should lead us all in by example? Come on, a wrong was done to you perhaps, but you responded to it rather immaturely... you're not garnering any more respect this way. Maybe have a Image, and see me in the morning...

Have a good day ;)

Ok, i'll bite

Leading by example isn't applicable in this situation because he lost his protection against disrespect by violating that principle himself.

There is a fundamental difference between someone who initiates the disrespect and someone who is defending against it. For instance, if someone punches you in the face I assume that you will not "lead by example" and allow them to pummel you into oblivion simply because the act of punching someone is wrong.

I would probably say this isn't a big deal, drop it and go on my merry way, but then someone would make another post about how I am wrong and that they are glad I refuse to respond which would require yet another defense.

I apologize if it offends everyone that I refuse to let someone punk me down and instead stand up for myself.

there is also a such thing as being the "better person" and not "rising to the occasion" or not "falling to their level"

Hear, hear.

Personally, I wouldn't get myself in that situation to start with. I like the eloquence of words (even if perhaps I'm not always the best person with them), because diplomacy gets you so much further in life, don't you think?

On an entirely different tangent, you don't have to pseudo-swear in 1337, because they don't filter naughty words here. A few other things relating to non-swearing situations that it would take too long to explain - but you can drop the f-bomb with aplomb. It's a beautiful thing.

If it's a NetNanny kinda thing on your end, my sympathies, but just so you know, this isn't Gaia-Online. You don't have to swear like an 11-year-old.
