IMHO, most AMVs, even many of the good ones, would be a lot better if they ran closer to the three minute mark than the five.

There's no reason to not use a song because of it's length.

Editing is editing. You are missing out on half the job if you don't at least consider editing the audio.
Since we're trying to make clips to match the SONG it seems really stupid to me to edit the song.

That's like making a custom shirt for someone but saying "Oh I don't like your arm, let me cut it off so I can make an easier shirt"

Here then is the basis of our disagreement.

I am trying to do a little more than just find clips to match a song. I am trying, not always with success but still trying, to find and edit both audio and video to "create" something entertaining that didn't before exist.

Yes, I know that there are all types of different vids. I myself like vids that are clips to a song, but I know other people like other stuff. But saying that EVERYONE should edit their songs is like me saying everyone shouldn't.

You're right. I didn't mean to say that everyone should edit their songs.

But, based on the AMVs that I've seen, I still say that most would have been better if they had edited their songs.

You see this in a good amount of amv's that they start out strong and lose it at the end. Some amv creators do not have the drive to finish the amv or are in a hurry to finish it. This is something that the creators need to learn as they edit. As I have been told in my earlier amv's that they had a great start to them but did not hold up at the end. It was not until 2005 with Back to Paradise that I finally made an amv that held its strength and gain some towards the end. Its all in who edits the amv.

very good advice adv1sor but since maybe a majority of the vids on here are made just for the fun of it you shouldn't read to much into it. theres is always something in someones vid that can be improved :)

I never had that problem. And my first vid was sucky all the way through. Hahaha, but at least they kept the same speed throughout the whole thing. Since I want my vids to be the best they can be I make myself keep it up until the end. Or I just plan them out before I make them, so that makes it easier too.

I've never edited down the songs I use for my AMVs. It must be an old-school thing, where we didn't have the tools that are easily available today. Hell, even having a song available on compact disc was a novelty at times.

I much prefer to take the entire song and use it all as a canvas. That said, if it appears that more people trim their audio source than I may have to try it myself even though to me it just feels wrong.

Thanks for sharing.

Did you have to cut down the audio or... what?
