At first, I used to just use the title of the video. Then a few years ago, one of the AMV contests (it might have been one of the AWA ones), recommended a Studio-RealName-Song-Artist-Anime.* naming format for submissions, or something like that...and I've kept on using it to this day.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

It's "grammar".

You can tell from my filenames that I like "[creator]-[title]".
I knew someone would say that. I know how to spell it, but when you're not thinking it's easy to use an "e". And since we can't edit...I wasn't going to post again just to correct it.

Years back when I shared my videos on Morpheus, the file names were also the titles - meaning it would be like "NEW!! <ANIME><AMV TITLE>by ME! YAY!". I didn't change the names when I uploaded them, so they're still the same :P

Lately I think just been using <inverse>-<AMV title>, and depending on how it's encoded, I might add (xvid).

most of mine are just <AMV title>.<extention>

recently I've been doing <AMV Title>-<editorer's name>(xvid)2pass.avi

the codec part is just so i know which file im working with... and i've been lazy to change it before upload...

when it comes to how i order others amvs:

<anime>-<amv title>.<extention>

or on my ipod its just title.. cause its only my favorites on there XD and i know them from amv title..

the only thing that really gets to me is wmm files that are all "file_00001.wmv" cause thats the default file name for a wmm video, and lots of people seem to use the default... it makes it harder to know what is what... and dont just name them with numbers 45.avi cause that is the least descriptive you can get O.o

I tend to name it with the anime and title, or the anime and song title if I'm not happy with the video title. Then the codec if it's an AVI file, because some of us have online contacts who are not AMV badasses who know everything about video from the moment of conception, and I want to try and help them out because I'm a dirty plebe-hugger like that. :P

So [anime]-[title|songtitle]-[format].

However, having finally almost finished the process of sorting my own AMV collection, I will say that we will rename things anyway. So if you have a deep soul-wrenching connection to your precious baby of a filename, mwahahahahahahaha. ;)

Since I only do trailers, I use a different format

[Trailer Title][Anime (Possibly includes 'Vs Movie Title')][Creator][Video][Audio].[extension]

For me its:

TITLE - CREATOR - <extension hidden>

I've thought of switching it around, but I'd have to rename about 1000 files. I also store my amvs first by anime (if I have a lot from one series, that is purely that series), then various, and within various I categorize it into action, comedy/fun, drama/romance/horror, MEPs, and trailers. Makes it easier to find one specific video out of the one thousand videos I have so far.
Insert clever text/image here.

ZOMG! You must be my long-lost twin or something. This is exactly how I rename any that I download.

Although, if I created one (which I am trying my hand at), I would probably name it after whatever I called the video.
Long lost triplets maybe. I also use the <ANIME> - <ARTIST> - <SONG>.<EXTENSION> naming convention. With the exception, that is, of the videos I upload here. Those use their title as file names, so their downloaders can keep easy track of them.
