FTP Uploading Issues

Post by 1stAgent » Tue Apr 25, 2006 12:29 am

I have the URL, username and password and all that, but whenever I try to access Kero-chan, I get a "connection to the server cannot be established." Is this really a server issue, or does my computer/connection need some sort of tweaking to get this to go through? I have a DSL connection with no discernable firewall. I can give more specs on request.

well even if you don't think you have a firewall (or even if it's not very good) it might be blocking your connection (either a software firewall or a hardware one, installed into your router)

if you could give more information that would be nice. I'd like to know what program you are using as an ftp too.

if you have a server-side ftp (as opposed to a client-side) you won't be able to connect. If you're not sure which one you have I have a link in my sig to the select download mirror page for the client side filezilla ftp

I tried it with both Explorer and NextFTP (very old, but formerly quite reliable). I gave it a shot with Filezilla, got connected, but got this message:

Status: Connected with kero.animemusicvideos.org. Waiting for welcome message...
Error: Timeout detected!

I'm starting to suspect that it is a firewall installed in the router. What do I do then?

you can try enabling passive mode (edit, settings I think...then look under the frewall tab)
it's supposed to help if you have a firewall, but I've never tried it myself

usually if a firewall is the problem you won't be able to connect to kero
maybe the server is busy right now, perhaps you should try uploading a bit later.

if that doesn't work, then you should pm derobert

I guess I'll shoot him a PM then.

After a few tweaks, Filezilla works fine for updating my website, but I get the same error message with Kero.

actually try DISABLING passive mode. Sometimes passive mode will do that to you.

Is the FTP Server fixed? Because last time I checked it was broken...

the default settings for filezilla are with passive mode disabled, so turning off passive mode shouldn't make any difference.

the servers are back up, happened a while ago. and even with the server "down" people could still upload files to kero (just the queue was broken)

This is getting annoying...

Okay... finally figured it out. There was some Microsoft Firewall tucked away at the back of the computer screwing everything up. Also, apparently the password to access the FTP site changes every so often.

But it's all better now and I just confirmed the upload. Thanks for all the help guys, and I hope you all enjoy my Linkin Park/Dragonball Z video.

No... it's Kino's Journey. I'm not that lame.
