See the thing with me is, I have the most luck with syncing things together. My first ~cough~AMV~cough~(cant really call it that because it was only like 30-40 seconds long and well you'll see) was quite literally thrown together. When I say this, I mean I did this.

1) Open up Windows Movie Maker
2) Click import music and click on first song I saw
3) Import a few random scenes I recorded from my Hellsing eps.
4) Save Movie(note there was no editing...)
5) Watch

And to my amazement my luck was almost earie because in those short clips they almost synced perfectly scenes, mood, lips everything. lol Its sad though, I was going to finish the AMV but lost interest. If you search enough you might find the incomplete version on Putfile somewhere(I wont be able to supply the link because I have no clue of my acc name and pass there ;_;)

I definitely think it's possible to overdo the beat-sync. While it's a good idea to sync to particularly strong elements/sections of the song (be it percussion, piano, etc.), you don't need to hit absolutely every element or carry it through the entire song. I've seen videos that have synced continuously to a soft backbeat for the entirety of a 4+ minute song, and it begins to get a bit monotonous.

Ideally, you'd want to achieve sync without sacrificing flow or becoming noticeably repetitive. If you can manage to reach that happy medium, you'll be set.
