Contest Admin Tools Update?

Post by Kurai Seraphim » Tue Apr 11, 2006 12:06 am

I posted about a year ago in regards to contest managers gaining the ability to cull out the videos listed under their contests that weren't actually in them. The response I received was primarily "on the to-do list", so I'm asking now if any progress has occured in the last twelve months towards this end?

I was reminded when I found 37 entries for the Animazement 2006 contest, which is interesting given I'm the only person who's seen any of the entries at all and I've personally spoken with everyone who has entered and see none of them among the entries.

I realize that they're people who are spamming their amvs everywhere in hopes of getting more hits and downloads, but this seriously hinders the functionality of the website.

If I can somehow gain access to the Animazement segment of the database, I can regularly clean it out to keep it accurate. I'm sure such a feature would be a mess to code given the complexity of both setting it up and determining who owns which contest, but perhaps this is a big enough problem to justify the effort?

There have been changes to the way contests are entered... If you enter the contest, then that person (and that too can be changed to the correct person in charge) can mark what video belong to that contest (there is an edit feature at the bottom of the calender and then the list of conventions under that persons control can be edited as there is a "participation" list that that has Yes/No for confirmation for videos that members say they entered)... It's still not the most perfect system, but it's a start

Is there going to be any sort of consequence for doing shit like this? Or is it just another unpunished violation of the rules like everything on the forums?

It's interesting to hear statements like that. I not sure how much experience you have in working in volunteer only organizations which is exactly what the org is. Surfice to say considering the size of this community and the hug undertaking of trying to keep the data under any sort of control is very time consuming and difficult at best. What has been added to the convention is a good start I think and the best we can do right now is to bring all constructive issues or suggestions to the attendion of the site programmers so that we can improve it and make it better in the near future as time permits.

I understand that all the work that you and the others do are purely of your own will (like many other forums), and I appreciate it immensely. However, people constantly and blatantly breaking one rule or another with impunity simply makes your job harder in that you have to start implementing new measures to combat them. This very issue is a prime example. If there were some sort of consequence for doing this kind of shit, people would take the administration here a little more seriously and you wouldn't have to waste your time coding preventive measures instead of new and exciting features.
