UK contests

Post by Deathdingle » Tue Mar 21, 2006 7:38 am

does any one know of UK contests, preferably held in Manchester, Liverpool or Glasgow (strange city combo I know but still) as I am more than a little interested in entering.

Auchinawa seems to be an upcoming anime convention in Glasgow (not sure how new it is other than my friend only hearing of its existance recently). However because of that there seems to be no indication of an AMV competition or even screening in their website... might want to poke around yourself if you want to know more.

Below is a website that lists anime convention's in UK... if they're close enough to what you're looking for, maybe you should give them a look:

http://www.anime-cons.com/events/calendar.shtml/006

The UK anime scene, and indeed the AMV scene seems rather low key from all my readings of these... I recommend entering something to Amecon because they seem to have just decided to hold an AMV competition and it's always good to support upcoming events. Hope this helped ;)

(it just so happened that I was researching UK cons recently :P)

London Expo is the next UK AMV competition, though they've only just decided to host one as part of their Anime themed offshoot from the original Expo.

AmeCon is the next, they've hosted one before and it went down well -- attendance is required though, and spaces are running out ;) That's in August

MinamiCon hosts one each year in mid-March and have been for a few years now, though they had too few entries to run this year (oops..) again, entry required and it sells out *fast*

Auchinawa is a newcomer, so no idea on that one yet.

AyaCon hosts a non-competitive AMV screening each con, but is still good fun to enter. That'll be next August, since Aya and Ame run alternate years.

Tokonatsu hasn't run one that I know of, but might be worth a mention anyway.

The UK AMV scene is small but growing, we are out there.

There's also nothing to stop you entering videos in a few of the international competitions -- we had two brits win in Anime Destiny last year ;)

Hope that helps some.
