I constantly keep getting the same pm's and emails over things that are specifically explained in the descriptions.
The video information - worth the time or not?

Very often the video description and a look at the format/filesize lets me decide if I really will download and watch the amv.
The description is something like the text on the back of a product I'm interested in.
To be honest, if it's too long I will only fly over the text. (JCD *cough*)
What I like too read is WHY somebody made that video. Extreme fandom, seeing something odd on TV, listening to an album a million times. Or anything more strange.

I dunno, i like to know that people care enough about a video to write more than a few lines about it, a long description is more likely to make me download a vid, whether i read it or not...if i do read it it'll be afterward to see what they wanted the vid to do, and therefore if they achieved it in my opinion.

I read them. That's how I tell whether the editor is an idiot or not. If you can't string a coherent thought together, it's less likely that you can do so in video either. There might be idiot-savants who can put together thoughts only in visuals and not, you know, thought... but if I hear that a video is good, then I'll watch it even if the info is drivel. You can look out for clues along those lines; some people are just geared to think only in visuals and not in words/thoughts.
But in most cases, the "omg lol i maed tihs in 2 mins it tuk so long lol" factor is my major bad-video filter. It's not ironclad, but it helps.
Of course, that doesn't count if English isn't your first language. But that's easy enough to tell.
And note: a "good" description doesn't have to be long, and a short description isn't necessarily bad. The key word is coherent. Unless you're trying to be incoherent, which is a different thing entirely.

I always read the vid information. They tend to be a barometer of several things:
The creator's ability to string thoughts together.
The creator's dedication to the vid in general.
The actual content of the vid.
The work that went into the vid.
If I see no video information I'll tend not to download the vid. Why bother if the creator hasn't bothered to tell me what it's about? I really appreciate nicely detailed information, because that means I can learn from it. I can see how the video moved from concept to creation, and work out how to put together scenes and effects. It doesn't just help my enjoyment of the video, it helps me improve my knowledge of amvs in general, and for a beginner, that is SO useful.

personally, I use the space to give the viewer more information.
Warnings
inspirations
improvements and new additions
how long it took (and how long I thought about quitting
)
if people just leave it blank or say "it's an awesome vid, why didn't you come here sooner" I tend not to take it (the vid and to a lesser extent the creator) as seriously
I try to read the vid info, but I tend not too after it gets past a certain length (which means I pass over most of the ones with lyrics attatched)
so in the end, I find that reading the vid info is worth the time
