Ok, I wasn't trying to generalize. Though I wasn't clear and may have been generalizing animes as a whole. At the time I was thinking mostly of the animes with bright colors, vivid environments, large eyes, cheery personalities, etc...

So when I was referring to rock, as in modern rock that you always hear on the radio, it doesn't suit the bright animation. The loud guitar riffs and yelling, I could see how that would fit into action, but it still seems limited, with exceptions of course.
And when I mean rap, I meant gangster rap or something like that. I just can't picture it in an AMV, unless it's a parody lol. (ghettos and hoes)

HipHop is completely different, I'm a fan of it myself. It definitely worked for Champloo, and you see nice AMVs with it every now and again.

Bear with me though, I tried to emphasize that there are always exceptions! So I dunno why I was getting a barraged with examples. :?

I have a vast musical taste, I greatly enjoy one genre above all so I can't say I'm not bias towards certain genres. Though I wont judge an AMV by musical taste alone, it's just one of those things where it has to all add up.

u no what the weird thing is? otaku have made their own ideas of mainstream. i'v never thought of it before, but there's bands that we like that no other category of ppl really like. like MSI, they arent really popular anywhere but in otakudom. so it hard to define MAINSTREAM when it comes to amv's :? (sorry if that's a bit off topic)

Rock lasted at LEAST until 1995. What do you call Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains?

BS. Rock is still alive and well.

American rock, maybe not. But I've ample proof that it's kicking elsewhere. :P
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I must advise a lot of you to stop being close minded.

Clearly you have no idea about the history of this community. AMVs pretty much publicly started with Dragon Ball Z and White Zombie. Rock music has been integrated into this hobby since its begining. Go take a look at the most used artists on this site.

416 - Linkin Park - ROCK/POP
1611 - Evanescence - ROCK/POP
1157 - System of a Down - ROCK/POP
983 - Disturbed - ROCK/POP
738 - Korn - ROCK/POP
710 - Metallica - ROCK/POP
638 - Nightwish
592 - Hoobastank - ROCK/POP
567 - Green Day
542 - -linkin park- - ROCK/POP
533 - Rammstein - ROCK/POP
530 - slipknot - ROCK/POP
498 - 3 Doors Down - ROCK/POP
487 - Rob Zombie - ROCK/POP
467 - Limp Bizkit - ROCK/POP
466 - Offspring - ROCK/POP
443 - Sum 41 - ROCK/POP
431 - Creed - ROCK/POP
429 - Simple Plan
426 - Avril Lavigne
416 - Papa Roach - ROCK/POP
407 - Drowning Pool - ROCK/POP
406 - likin park - ROCK/POP
403 - Blink 182 - ROCK/POP
398 - Godsmack - ROCK/POP
392 - Queen - ROCK/POP
385 - Ayumi Hamasaki
382 - Unknown
341 - Bon Jovi - ROCK/POP
325 - Madonna

What kind of anime do you watch that doesn't go well with generic rock music?

90% of all anime has either one 16 year old male who gets mad and beats people up, or one 14 year old male who is sexually frustrated. Usually its a combination of both. That is rock music.
