How do you find videos to download?

Post by Blanco22 » Wed Mar 08, 2006 1:04 am

I've recently uploaded my first AMV and made my post in the annoucements forum (don't worry, this isn't a post to ask you to d/l my video). Since then, I've been keeping watch on how many people have been downloading it. I noticed that before my post had even gotten any views, that a couple people had already downloaded my video. A few days past and my video had gotten a lot more downloads than there were views on my post.

Then I started thinking, how are people finding my video? In the first case, I figured they either saw my video in the new vid on the block section or that they were using the "search" to look for videos. This seemed odd to me, I barely use the search to find videos to downloads and I've never used the new vid on the block link. Now I've also got my amateur banner in my sig. Does anyone click ever click on those?

When I first came to this site, I started by going through all the old VCAs and downloaded the nominees and winners. After that, I'd often check out videos from the Top 10% list. Once in a while I'd check out a video or two from the Top 10 Favorite Videos list from an editor who's video I really liked. Finally, I've arrived at the forums, I've never been too big on forums, and usually check out the Recommended AMVs.

The Internet in my apartment is awful. I've got 500MB a day of bandwidth and if I go over it, my connection drops to about dial up speeds. So to maximize use of my bandwidth, I've tried to only download popular videos. Now that I'm a new editor, I've become more sympathetic to new videos by people I've never heard of and try to take a look at new videos in the Announcements forum.

So I'm wondering, how do you guys find videos to download?

I don't need to find videos.

My friends constantly message me to download their new ones. :P

i usually go through the "new download" sections and recomendations, and what my friends send me...

sometimes when i am going to use a song i will use the super search...

for the most part my friends use me as the "download filter" for the new downloads sections, cause i will send them ones that i liked out of the 10-15 i downloaded that day...

unless there is a song or a series i am interested in, I rarely toutch the "super search" anymore...

the "quick search" though sometimes has some fun results XD

I use the Super Search whenever I think of a song I'd like to see a good video to (or a good song/anime combo)... and I think that signatures, if pretty/clever/otherwise appealing, do work.

When I first joined, it was a combination of the AIM chatroom (now useless for AMVs) and searching, usually by song. I also checked other AMV sites, like MTT and NeoGohan's site... but back then there weren't even 15000 videos. So now I just wait for creators I'm familiar with to release stuff. And I also frequent the AMV Announcements forum, but rarely actually download anything.

The AIM chatroom is a fine place to get new video information, if you can stand being called faggot constantly.

These days, it's actually in the Announcement forum where I find the stuff I download... next would be from friend's recommendations, and those have been an on and off thing (ie. sometimes people just want to share the pain as much as the enjoyment).

And then there's the conventions section... I like to watch out for announcement of winners in the Contests forum because they're usually worth the watch.

I'm one of those people who does use the search function. When I first got here I began with the Top 10%, and from that got an idea of animes that I liked the look of. Once I'd identified an anime I'd like to see more of, I'd seek it out with the search function and download a ton using the same series. This was more or less my introduction to anime in general, so I used the AMVs as a resource. Every so often I'll search for favourite artists or songs these days, as well as favourite anime. I like to find good and overlooked vids and leave ops for them. All the big names have more opinions than they can cope with, so it's nice to give new vids a chance.

For the last month or so I've used the announcements forum. Before then I didn't even visit the forum at all - just stayed on the main org.

In the last year or so I've been using the announcment forum. scaning through the new ones for animes I know or songs that I wanna see what was done with them. Before that it was mainly searching via the super search, top 10% and reccomended.
