instrumental song suggestions?

Post by otbwavelength » Sat Feb 25, 2006 1:09 am

anyone have any good suggestions for instrumental songs?

doesn't matter how many/what instruments, trying to find a song that has some energy to it, can have some lyrics but prefer not to have any, etc.

would like to try and find a song that's got varying levels of intensity, goes from soft to very high energy and back, or even just a song that's all high energy.

thanks in advance guys, i try to look up instrumental albums online at stores and i just get the same stuff (mogwai, moby, classicals, etc.) and i can't seem to find anything besides the super mainstream stuff.

I know this group is over used but the entire ES Pothumos-"Unearthed" (i think I spelled it wrong) album.

Hot stuff to play with.

more will follow...

Haven't seen you around for a while. :p Made any progress on those Dark New Day vids?

Anyway... I'd love to see someone make a vid to Dream Theater's 'Stream of Consciousness', but it's kind of long and rarely lets up. DT's instrumentals are usually pretty energetic and technical, but I already know you're good at synching. :)

Iced Earth's '1776' is nice and bouncy, but it's been used once already (if that kind of thing factors into your decision). There's a nice soft section in the middle that I think is well-placed for AMV usage.

I guess I'm the first to suggest Liquid Tension Experiment. Start off with Another Dimension, Universal Mind, Liquid Dreams, Kindred Spirits, and When the Water Breaks. When the Water Breaks is my favorite, but it's also about 17 minutes. Paradigm Shift and Acid Rain are good ones too, but those are both mostly intense all the way through.

But those are mostly long songs, and if you're looking to make an AMV you might want something shorter. So there's also Gordian Knot, but I don't have any recommendations right off hand.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

not to sound like a dick but after playing those songs on DDR for the past five years of my life, hearing them on beatmania, and hearing them and playing them well over 1,000 times each, i really would go batshit if i had to make an AMV with those. ><

That's because I lurk. :) PM me if you still want to comment on the vid or get an updated beta.

*listening to Flint's suggestions*
I was thinking of suggesting LTE, but couldn't think of anything particularly appropriate (yeah, I forgot about Acid Rain) as I hadn't listened to the CDs for ages and it was too late in the morning to do so.

Acid Rain has a (imo, misjudged) quieter bit in the middle and there's some directionality to play with at the beginning and the end. Another Dimension is about the most conventionally heavy LTE song there is, and possibly the only metal song with an accordian solo. It sounds pretty good actually. Universal Mind strikes me for some reason as particularly good for video that has a story to tell. Kindred Spirits is low on the stop-start technical noodling that can put people off, under seven minutes long, and flows well while still being varied. Liquid Dreams isn't what I'd call high energy, and to me feels like it's still getting started five minutes in.

Check them all out anyway; even if you don't want to make an AMV to them they're still worth a listen. You can listen to samples at Amazon, although the samples for When The Water Breaks and Kindred Spirits aren't very well-chosen.

If you fancy a challenge, try The Dance Of Eternity (Dream Theater). It's not fast, but it'd be a pain to synch properly even if you had a ton of effects to fall back on. Somebody already made a vid to it, but it's complete and utter crap so it can be safely ignored.
